If you battery power the receiver and use headphones with adaptor it will make a remote controlled portable "Radio".

I keep meaning to stick a 5" LCD TV, batteries & receiver part all in one box.

While on the subject of bargains, Tescos (well at least my local one) are selling 3-way switchable scart adapters for the princely sum of €4.24.

Now I dont know if this is a pricing mistake because I am sure I saw them before for around €16, but that's what I paid, and thats what's on the shelf & computer. I dont want to be the one to question them and they have been that price for quite a while now.

Bought 2 and so far they havent fallen apart. You can switch in and out the 3 scarts independently which is handy if only certain things interfere or are used occasionally.
Also silver grey and fairly compact.

but do they switch RGB and do they switch the 2 or 3 status lines properly?

Eventually I got a rotary switched £6 4-way box from Hills Electronics that switched every pin. You need a reversing SCART for it sadly... Eventually I swapped the composite video in & out wires and the two pairs of audio in & out wires on the rear of the common SCART and then was able to use an ordinary straight cable.

    How do these things work?

I assume you send a video out signal from DVD/Video/Decoder box into the Video sender. That then transmits a signal throughout the house, but how do you receive that signal at a TV? Do you need an aerial or does the kit come with a receiver? If the latter? can you get two or more receivers?

    tks

The kit comes with a receiver. I guess it's possible to use a few receivers, though I'd doubt if you'll be able to get a receiver on its own, meaning buying whole sets.

Bear in mind that the TV "digi"-senders work on 2.4GHz so if you have other devices on that frequency (in particular wireless networks) then you will probably want to try to configure things to mitigate interference (e.g. stick the senders on a channel "furthest away" from your own and neighbours' wireless LANs, baby monitors, (to a lesser extent) microwave ovens etc.

Maplin did have receivers on their own. But since there are 4 channels, having 4 sets in theory allows 4 channels. Different makes are mostly compatible.

Unlike RF out on VHS, Digibox etc, the audio is stereo.

    Yeah, that's true.

The wifi ruled out my using the video sender I have. Changing channels on both the router and video sender made little to no difference. Naturally, wifi won the transmission war in this house :)

Ah yes, remember the days of the VHF senders, now a tad illegal. My cousin told me of a fairly large bus company he used to work for using one so that the boss (and the rest of the town) could observe the workers from home by tuning in his TV.

Ive found most of the commonly available video senders seem to work on the same channels so you can chop and change receivers. Still prefer the hardwire option where possible though.

As for the scart adapters, havent checked, I extremely doubt they are fully switched, they do seem to switch status lines ok, they seem to be fully wired, I have them fully connected up so might be easier just to buy another to check the full specs. At €4 cant complain when it does exactly what I need it for (ie mostly swapping boxes so I can record whatever without wife or kids switching channel to True movies or Cbeebies when they are viewing)

Unlike VCRs, DVDrecorders generally only have one scart in and I dont need cables trailing from the front input so they are the only practical way to go.

Any video sender for USA is illegal in EU. Be carefull with ebay!

I managed to get Video Sender & WiFi to co-exist. poor Receiver site/aerial position and the WiFi would put lines running trough the picture.
Ch1 WiFi & D on Video Sender or 11/13 on Wifi & A on video sender.

USA does not allow Ch12 & 13 WiFi, so not all bases/adaptors support it. Some are affected by which timezone (base) or regional settings (PC).
