Bridesmaid's Dresses - Same Style as Bride?

I'm just wondering if people think it's better to have the bridesmaid's dresses in a similar style to the bride's (i.e. strapless, knee length etc) or if it's quite ok (and wouldn't make the pictures look weird!) for them to be completely different?

Wouldn't see any problem with them being either very similar OR very different - I'd go with what you think will suit the bridesmaids themselves rather than cramming them into a dress they feel uncomfortable in or such. Up to you really at the end of the day - only thing I would say is that if your bride's dress is not as formal as a traditional gown, don't get overly traditional or stuffy BM dresses, compliment the style of the bride's dress.

The tradition came from years ago when the bridal party all dressed the same to confuse evil spirits who were trying to find the happy couple. Now all rules are out the window so do what you feel most comfortable with! All the best with your day.
