can vary, some domestic carriers allow between 20 and 40 minutes, but would always give at least an hour to two, espcialy with getting through security and to the gate

That's one of Dublin Airport's busiest times (assuming Dublin, given your location), and I wouldn't be leaving it til the last minute to arrive.

If you're checking in online without bags, the airline won't think twice about leaving without you if you're not there to board with everyone else because they don't have to offload your bags.

If you're checking in in person, most airlines close their desks 40 minutes before scheduled departure, but that's cutting it fine for clearing security and getting to your gate (esp. for Pier D).

Personally, I wouldn't arrive any later than 4.45pm and that's when I'm using online check-in.

I'd allow 1hr30min for an airline with self check-in machines (like BMI or Aer Lingus).

2hrs for normal check-in with Ryanair.

Transatlantic, I allow 3 hours (check-in, security and immigration)

    UK/Europe, I allow 2 hours.

Hasn't seen me miss a flight yet ;)
