Following on from Brother monkeyfudge's suggestion, eh, somewhere, seeing as BGRH has done so well in the main Boards awards nominations I think we should pat ourselves on the back. With this in mind, I'm pleased to announce that nominations are now being taken for the first ever BGRH Awards (The Bellies). This is sure to be a coveted honour in years to come, so I urge you all to think long and hard about who we should vote for and, more importantly, what categories we vote on. Here's some to kick things off:

Brother of the Year - TBA
Brotherette of the Year - TBA
Mod of the Year - we could have a vote or just throw Brothers Tom and Robbo into one of those ultimate fighting cages and let them slug it out. I'm veering towards the latter. :D
Thread of the Year - TBA

And seeing as there's bound to be a least one or two non-Brothers or Brotherettes we like out there:
Non BGRH-Regular Poster of the Year - TBA

I'll add my nominations in a while when I've had a think, but everyone else feel free to add your own.

Brother of the Year - Where to start, so many. Hagar, Monkeyfudge, Trout, Rig(all those pictures of boobs), Tom(we wouldn't have a bar without him).

Brotherette of the Year - We really need pictures for that one. :D Bronte, maple, malteaser!

Mod of the Year - A drink off is the only way to decide.

Thread of the Year - The bar, or the one where yer man was thinking about eating dog food just for it's sheer bizaarness. It didn't last long though

Just a quick of the top of my head list.

Good work, pretty in pink! I'm thinking along the same lines.

I'd like to add Mairt to brother of the year, although he has been quiet recently. I have a soft spot for him though cos of the way he talks about his kids!

Brotherette of the year: As above, obviously adding PiP

Mod of the year: For this we need a mod off, with a number of rounds

    1) drink off... Give the mods progressively more disgusting drinks, whoever quits first loses.

    2) eat off ... a hot dog/burger eating competition. Give them 5 minutes, See who eats the most.

    3) a belly off .. we can compare various aspect of the mods beer bellies. Give then points for roundyness/hairiness etc

    4) A Simpsons off ..... After they're drunk from the drink off and fat-bellied from the eat off we ask them incresingly more difficult simpsons questions to ascertain their commitment to sitting in their lazyboys in the evening in front of the tv (any wrong answers, that's a paddling, of course!)

Thread of the year: I have to vote for the bar of course, for the random chat and the fact that there's always someone in there!

Non BGRH poster of the year: emmm I vote Terry, due to his sarcasticness and perfect spelling and grammar!

    I'll do some more thinking!

I also think we should make award statues. They can be big gold bellies on a stick. Magnificent!

You can't nominate everyone, there are only 10 options in a poll!

I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. I've a little more hair and I'm a little less golden.

If I get that far I'll be into TGI FRidays* for a feed and a few Long Island Iced Teas. Then off to the Lidl car park to buy a laptop from a guy in a foreign regged car.

    * Don't tell me they're closed as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,007 ✭✭✭pretty-in-pink

Nope, TGIs has at least 2 branches now. And electric lemonade :D ftw

And if you end up with cans of milk instead of a laptop it won't be so bad.. you'll just be extra popular at the next BG&RH beers.

LOL I nearly spat my tea over the keyboard...

These BGRH awards sound interesting.... most of ye have put up the main peoples already. I'm liking the drink/eat/belly off to decide best mod :D
I'm sure the boys would prefer the wimmin in aprons battling it out for brotherette with condensed milk...oh wait...or would that just be trout? ;)

By the by - TGIs, there's at least 1 in town, there's 1 in Blanch and 1 in Dundrum. OH and their 'apple pie' is a LIE...a LIE!!!

OK, I've started keeping score of the nominations. I reckon the top 3 in each category will go for the final vote, depending on the numbers nominated. You're allowed 1 nomination per category, so if you've already nominated multiple times I'm afraid I can't accept it, it's just too hard to keep track. Please feel free to nominate again.

Nominations close midnight Sunday next, 24th November.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,212 ✭✭✭✭Tom Dunne

As a side note - to we want to organise a mini-beers for the award ceremony?

I'm thinking the week before Christmas or even over the Christmas?

    A poll perhaps?

Myself and Robbo will of course compère for the night. :D

You might even get to see our bellies.

Could be a runner, although I'm pretty much booked up on the run up to Christmas, as are a lot of people I'd say, so over Christmas might be good. Was trying to organise beers on the D15 forum before Christmas and it's proving nearly impossible.

Brotherette of the Year - starpants

Non BGRH-Regular Poster of the Year - Monkeyfudge (a noob to these parts so it counts!)

I likes to many people here!

*I wish I could nominate all the people I mentioned previously. I drew names from a hat, as I couldn't choose a poster for each category

I has a Christmas party organised. I'll let ye know what spaces are free, I can count 10, I thinks. Its the 22. I'll get back to you.....

As good a way as any! I'd say everyone would have several alternatives for the top two awards, it's tough picking one.
