    hi,
done a search on this subject but could not find amy relevant threads...

i wish to get the setanta sports package. i do not have satellite or cable (good old fashioned aerial).
i enquired of a sky retailer how much a skybox with dish set up would be (with no packages). he quoted me €225 and for this i would recieve the fta channels with this.

if i get this set up, is the skycard that comes with it equiped to recieve a setanta signal (upon setanta subscription) or is the card "dead".

    any advice appreciated..

My dad just got sky in and I had to subscribe to setanta sports for him. I did it online and he gets all setanta sport channels for €18 per month and they came through to his screen within the hour

No card comes with this, you need to get one from setanta

For an extra €60 you could subscribe to 1 sky mix for a year then cancel and keep your equipment for the FTA/Setanta channels

    €45 install
    Free equipment
    €20/month for 1 Mix

    €20x12 = €240 + €45 = €285

sounds good....but say after the year, would the sky card not be redundant thereby not allowing setanta be recieved???

No, the card could still be used for setanta if you cancelled sky

If you speak to a line manager in Setanta they can get a card sent out to you, unlike in the UK where they send you a Freesat card and charge £20, its FOC here. I've got this setup, which is significantly cheaper if you've got the gear... but you don't, obviously. The 1 year sub might work out better.
