does anyone have experience / opinion about the following:

    Canon 17 - 85 IS USM lens
    Canon 70-300 IS lens
    Canon EF-S 55-250 IS lens

Ps, what is advantige of USM? especially when the lens already has IS.

    Thanks!

As I put in the other thread the 17-85 IS USM would be a good starter lens and the 70-300 IS would complement it well or you could get a 70-200 f4L for about the same a the two of them. USM is silent fast focus and IS just stabilises the image.

I think the Canon 17 - 85 IS USM lens is a great lens...

+1. Great walkaround lens, but has a habit of attracting dirt internally.

I've had the 17-85 for about a year and can't recommend it enough. I got it off the Canon shop on Ebay.
