The M.I.A show that was due to take place in the Phoenix Park Marquee on 7 December has been canceled.

No reason given, no doubt it was due to lack of sales because of the high ticket price because none of her other dates (which or over €30 cheaper by the way!) were canceled.

Still, I had a ticket and I have been gagging to see her since Arular came out, so disappointed :(

This was bound to happen. The venue is way to big for her. She probably wouldnt have filled the pit let alone the whole tent. Look for a Tripod gig to be announced in the near future.

Yeah, I knew when it was announced that it wasn't going to happen. Venue was too big, tickets too expensive.

€30 was a joke, most of her UK shows are 8 or 9 quid.

T'was actually €45 afaik. A new standard for rip-off gigs imo.

I think I said it somewhere else but I think Aikens foray in to the park was more to keep up relations with the Office of Public Works for future events in the park. Keep in mind the hassle that happened with a previous unmentionable event and Aiken and another promoter battling for the rights to promote in the park. If a similar situation arose again and you had a party whod spent lots with you previously and another who hadnt youd favour the person you dealt with before.

However I get the feeling acts that are big enough to fill the venue werent available and they tried to recoup losses by charging over the odds on stuff that really cant draw the numbers they are looking for.

Either that or someone was very very dumb or its an experiment in seeing exactly how much the irish gig going population can be milked. I really rather believe my original explanation.

I get the feeling Aiken mistook the popularity of M.I.A. off the heels of Electric Picnic. I agree with ya too Toast, not many big arena acts touring Europe this winter that haven't played here enough times recently.
