    Well there's a battle o the bands coming up called 'Battle of bands Spirit57'. Supposedly with €1,000 worth of recording time in a top studio (that would get you about 2 mins??) and an appearance (have to be careful here..) at a 'large Irish music festival' thrown in to boot. More info here www.myspace.com/battleofthebandsspirit57

    Do we care? I'm not being smart actually, I've no reason to run it down except I swore off band competitions after Emerjenza - which is probably unfair on any other band competition on earth but I won't get started on those highwaymen.

    To prove my hypocrisy we have signed up to the Murphys Live comp cuz at least that does seem to get a bit of exposure and there's a decent prize but I'd be interested to know more about this one. Ticket prices etc? Are there judges or like Emerjenza can a sh*tty pub band win if they bring loadsa mates??

    To sum up, is the prize a bit sh*t given the fact that your festival appearance would be to your mates and a couple of Scottish security men?

    Edited: sorry, meant to put this in 'Gigs and Events' - can someone move the thread?...ooops

    In the terms and conditions it says;

    15. The winner of each round shall be decided by the audience except for the final when the winner will be decided by selected judges.

    So if that's the way they run Emergenza, which as I recall it is, ten you will need to bring a crowd to win.

    Also as for entry fee;

    10. There is no entry fee to accompany this form.

    11. Admission for the public to the Heats and to the Final will be €5. A drinks voucher will be given to every ticketholder.

    It's all in their terms and conditions, which to be fair to them is very clear.

    cheers for that TK

    well Emerjenza (shiver...) had a joining fee for every band of €60 as far as I can remember. And then it was €8 - €10 in the heats. How the f**k did we fall for that...
    So its better from that point of view.

    Same concerns with voting system (ie, maximise attendance rather than quality of bands that progress) and prize though, compared to what an organiser might make out of the thing.

    oh and the drink voucher is a nice touch I suppose...unless its Heineken

    They want to make money. That is what it boils down to.

    Emerjenza now are now running some kind of "booking agency", as in they are looking for bands and venues.. I think.
    We dealt with them previously.. but I wouldn't like to get into any kind of defamation...

    Had a mate go to this to see a band last night. Said the lights were amazing in the Academy, sound, not so amazing, which is a shame. Still, new band stage at oxygen isn't a bad prize.
