Absolute Beginner - Advice Sought

    Hi,
I've decided that it is now time to get into shape. I recently completed college and have started a desk job. I eat relatively healthily, but don't play any sports or get much exercise in general.

I'm slightly afraid that if I don't tackle the issue soon, my weight will jump. (I've noticed that since I've started working in June, my weight has gone up.) So, I've stated looking for gyms either in town or the Stillorgan/ Dundrum area, (Dublin) and was thinking that UCD looked like a decent idea.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could advise on a simple gym/ exercise plan. I'm not really interested in bulking up. All I want is to drop a bit of weight and staying thin, (I'd say that I'm about 1.5 - 2 stone over my recommended BMI.)

I've never been much of a gym-goer, so I don't really know what to do. Again, I should stress that I'm only interested in losing weight and keeping it off. Any suggestions?

How often should I go? Is once or twice a week enough?

Should I wait until the new year to try to get a better deal on gym membership?

    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Ger...
