With an amazing stroke of luck this arrived today, the SAME DAY as my new Dual Shock 3!

So now i get to sit in work for the next 4 hours looking at them both :(

Anyone else import this or played it?

Need one more assassination in Assassins creed tonight before moving on to this. Then have to get back for the other 60 stars in Mario galaxy and trying to fit in COD4 and Halo3 matches.....

Sigh... The life of a gamer.

Uncharted is available to buy on videogames plus
Tempted to get a dual shock myself, where did you order yours from?

Think I'll be leaving this as a crimbo present... I've already got waaaaay too many games to get through at the moment

I've a dualshock in the post from japanese ebay shop. Hard to get otherwise as the regular asian shops won't deliver sony stuff.

ITs out in yankee land then? Off to ebay then.

Yes, ordered it on VG+ last monday, shipped Friday, arrived yesterday. (Wasnt in work so missed it!)

And Dual shock from ebay, bought two white ones, 123 euro inc delivery, took about 4 working days from USA.

Got a link to the eBay shop you used at it cost me more than that for 2 black ones?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭WellyJ

    Highly Recommend this seller

Like I said, took about 4 working days to get it here,

Shipping from USA instead of asia also.

He sells them in pairs only i think, 148 USD for 2 whites, 2 blacks, or 1 of each.

With shipping it was $181 which worked out as EURO123

Well if you can get someone to buy the other one its not pricey at all.

I cant see them being less than 59.99 at retail here, when they come out in MARCH

    in fairness, whats that for?

youd want to have something wrong with you to pay that kinda money just coz it rumbles

    oooooh rumble

    wow

I contemplated ignoring this as it's not really worth replying to,

    But screw it,

Have you actually used the Sixaxis? Its absolutely ****ing horrible.

it feels like its going to break in your hands, the sticks arent near resistant enough, the shoulder buttons arent near resistant enough. Its way too light also, and it doesnt rumble.

The DualShock3 rectifies all these issues. Its nice and heavy, the analogue sticks are much sturdier, shoulder buttons have more resistance and basically it feels much more solid.

If your opinion on something is uninformed and just plain ignorant, than refrain from posting about it in future.

well to be honest, ive always hated ps controllers anyway, so the sixaxis just felt like another in a long line of turds to me in fairness

again tho, over 60 quid for a controller?

youre having a laugh? coz i know sony are

Its not over 60 for the controller.

    Its NOT OUT here yet,

So like anything, if you want to import it you should expect to pay a premium,

One that I am happy to pay because it is a much better product than the one I am using currently.

i never once mentioned what you paid for them

and me personally, whenever i import things (which is quite regularly), theyre generally cheaper than they are in ireland, ive never paid more than something in ireland costs when i bought it abroad anyway

Yes but you pay a lot more than people in the country you are getting it from do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

    erm, no you dont

you pay what they pay, plus whatever postage costs, which is never particularly much unless its a big item (ive bought synths from the states and the shipping has only been about €40)

OP - Did you get hit with any import tax? Thinking of getting Uncharted. Seconding the 'how is it?' question as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭WellyJ

Decided to skip Assassins creed and get straight into this,

After 2 hours i have to say its amazing!

    Best game on the console.

No import tax they mark it as $20 value and describe it as toy/game

Never got taxed on orders from VG+ even some over 150 euro.

Got ps3 but dont have a game yet.think i might buy this.are ps3 games region free.good value buying them from us with the weak dollar.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

yeah theyre region free but games shops wont take them as trade ins

apparently there are issues when trying to play online with games from another territory (i dont actually buy this, i just reckon they wont take ntsc games on the basis that theres a chance of someone with a non ntsc compatible tv buying one and bringing it back to complain)

I much, much prefer the feel of the sixaxis to the DualShock2, in fact the only they're missing is the force feedback, which is an awful shame. But the weight and resistance are improved IMO.

You prefer controllers to feel like they are made out of cardboard?

I hate how light it is, its offputting. And the stick resistance is way off.

DualShock3 is great, not on par with the 360 controller but definitely a big improvment.

It was nice not worrying about the controller snapping in two while playing Uncharted last night.

xtravision however WILL, but youre looking at trading in 3 games and adding a fiver to get a new release

    thanks for that helix

To be honest the blood looks pretty cartoony and it woudlnt be that big a deal not having it.

I do like playing the game how it was intended though so i understand how annoying that would be.

Did you import from Japan to get the console early?

Biggest problem with it is the lack of visual hit detection. Hard to say if you got someone and doesn't give the same satisfying feeling when shooting someone.

I guess, I never thought of that but makes a lot of sense.

It seems a bit silly anyway, look at all the anime that comes from Japan that is full of blood and gore.

I don't really get the decision?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 579 ✭✭✭Qs

Probably to get the cert down so they could get the jap parents to buy it for their kids.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭xanthor

Maybe it varies from branch to branch, but my local Xtra Vision wouldn't take Asian/Region free games in trade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

^neither do GAME anymore. HO say it's illegal to sell American/Jap versions cos the box doesn't have a PEGI rating.

Got this game today played it for about an hour. I'm really liking it. Graphics are great, not the best I've seen in a game, the environments are so lush! Gameplay seems solid. Will launch back into it tomorrow!

Ok well thanks for the reviews lads

Anyone care to get this thread back on topic and give us a good review of this game. I'm thinking about getting a PS3 in the new year and i'm putting together a list of titles I should get for it.

    Few questions:

    1. How does it compare to, say, Tomb Raider: Legend?
    2. Is there an auto aim feature? (really hate aiming with an analogue stick)
    3. How is the gun fights and platforming balanced (i.e. 50/50, or platforming for the majority being split up occasionally with gun battles)
    4. Any lag at all?
    5. What's it missing? (aside from Laras polygon boobs)

    1. It's a far better game than tomb raider legend which for me was mediocre at best but no where near the quality of the PoP games.
    2. There is no auto aim and I don't think there is any aiming assistance but didn't have much frustration with the controls unlike something like the Darkness which was horrendous for aiming.
    3. There is an awful lot more gunfighting than platforming which is a shame because the platforming is an awful lot better than the combat. Combar can get repetitive but the excellent characters and decent story keep things moving and the gunfights are broken up by the excellent platforming.
    4. Surprisingly not much. The game runs at a nearly constant 30fps and hardly ever (if ever) dips below 25fps. There are some vsync issues but ever console game seems to have them and they are nowhere near as bad as in Assassins Creed.
    5. All it's missing is a bigger adventure (beat the game in 2 days) and a cover system that works a lot better, something like GoWs cover system since the one implemented here isn't as responsive and can get frustrating when your character doesn't react when you want to. And if you miss lara's boobies the love interest is a hottie, properly proportioned and a great character to boot.

Overall it's by far the best exclusive on the PS3 and well worth buying even if the press has over rated it quite a bit.

playing through TRL again atm and i'd have to agree. After playing Anniversary I miss the long puzzle areas of the game. The puzzles seem very basic and way to short. Also, i'd have to agree about PoP, i've played through the PoP games a few times and they don't get old, whereas this is my second time through TRL and I don't think i'll touch it again (hear they are building Deus Ex 3 on the Tomb Raider engine)

I'm going to be getting a console primarily for platformers as they have all but dried up on the PC. I guess i'll add drakes fortune to the list so.

One other question, theres no asshatery in Drakes fortune like taking the game out of the jungles and plonking him in a military base or high rise like Tomb Raider seems to like doing, is there?

No there is none of that,

The whole game pretty much takes place in the Jungle and a forgotten city in said jungle.

With lots of tombs and temples etc.

Have to agree with the tomb raider thing you mentioned, as soon as I was standing in a city/town i lost interest in the series. They never managed to recapture the magic of the first game, the lost valley etc.

Oh, and make sure you get Ratchet and Clank if you do invest in the PS3, fantastic platform game.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,396 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Don't worry about drakes doing a tomb raider 2+ and ending up in uninteresting modern locations. Every location is fresh, interesting and original and even the vehicle sections are far more fun than they have any right to be.

I'm very weary about ratchet and clank. Found the demo to be instantly forgettable and fairly boring. Maybe I was spoiled by the stupendous Mario Galaxy but ratchet and clank just felt so by the numbers. I won't be getting the full game.

Well it certainly isn't a patch on SMG, but then there is nothing on any system that is imo.

Its a great game for what it does, having not played the previous ones i didnt suffer from it being unoriginal. All the weapons etc. were new to me and I had a lot of fun from beginning to end.

Graphically its pretty amazing which is a nice bonus too.

But yeh, give me Galaxy over it any day of the week.

The demo is probably the dullest part of the game. Its much, much better than that. The more you play it the better it gets. Theres more weapons, gadgets, gizmos, devices etc and as you play each of them improve through use and upgrade purchases. It really is a sublime game. If you think you like platformers you wont want to miss it.
