    Hey,

Was just wondering has anyone had any issues with customs when ordering off www.abercrombie.com.

Ordered a sweater the other day on the site and didn't incur any customs, I think it was around 50 euro inc. shipping. Would they notice if I ordered more than one item, as the packages are pretty light.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Yeah I've heard of people being caught out.

It's something to do with fedex or something... although I could be wrong. they look for money a couple of weeks later. Although maybe it depends on how much stuff you order. I can't really remember what the situation was that i heard about

Yea Fed Ex have an agreement with the government that they collect the tax on goods. Therefore if you get ur goods and u think youve got away without paying you can be assured that youll get the invoice from fed ex a few weeks after.

    Yes, ordered a few t-shirts.

Cost of excise, customs and 'administration charge' came to 40e on a package that cost €77e.

    Absolute madness.

I've queried the admin charge (10e) as it's complete Bullsh1t and I'm not paying a cent till they drop it.

I think the duty and vat is a load of boll1x too, but there is less that can be done about that.

Sent an email on Thursday, no response as of yet.
    :)

There were no other delivery options. If you have any friends in the U.S, I'd advise getting it delivered to them,
have them send it on repackaged.

Oh it's quite the deal I say, they have the privilege of charging the customer 10e a pop for this wonderful service.

Utter bullsh1t. They should be made to refund every single €10 charge.

    The revolt starts here. :)

I may start a thread in the appropriate forum in a few days. Reading a few interesting things online of peoples experiences.
People receiving invoices for gifts they have received. F*cking hell.

Has anyone taken Fed-Ex up on it?

It's the 12.10e admin fee I have a problem with. Tis bull.

You usually get hit for customs for A&F so be wary ...

Dammit, let us know how you get on without paying that admin, charge. Thought it was good value too, 50 euro inc. shipping for the sweater.

My Dad found this site: www.ecaven.com

    They're fakes though.

Yea anyway I'll let you know whether we receive the invoice or not, is there not some law against the courier not referring to any charges before you open the package? I mean it seems odd that they bill you after you've received the package.

you're told when you order from abercrombie that you are liable to pay any charges that may occur with shipping and customs.

fed ex impose this charge on you because they actually pay the customs duty when the item comes into ireland so that they can deliver it quickly to you. otherwise your item would stay in customs until you paid the fee itself.

i don't agree with the fee myself, but i can see where they are coming from.

    good luck in fighting it.

Tbh, If it was mentioned on the site, I didn't even notice because it's never been applied until recently, and even then it's not consistent.

This is the reason for the 12.10e charge, as far as I can see it:

    Fed-Ex pay customs first.

However, as some people won't pay them the customs charges which Fed-Ex have already paid out of their own pocket, they
are passing that loss/cost on to the customers who will pay their charges.

    Which frankly, is bullsh1t.

We aren't given any option to pay it at/to source, or pay it before delivery of the package.
Given the option I'd rather of waited an extra week/two and not had the feeling of being taken for a ride.
It wasn't something I needed urgently ffs.

Yea exactly, and someone in my family ordered 180 worth of goods the other day off the site, thats going to cost a bit. But I suppose even with the 21% and 12.10 euro charge you're still paying less than you would in Irish stores.

Duty is applied too, which was close to half what the vat was.

The Total cost of my package before Duty/Tax/Bullsh1t Fed-ex fees was 76e-80e (depending on the exact exchange rate they used at the time).

The total invoice from fed-ex for extra charges was 42.05e

    More than 50%.

Also, from what I can see, it doesn't state what exchange rate they are using/used for their calculations.

Thats just plain ridiculous, I don't mind paying the customs, but extra charges for the courier on top of their original shipping cost is wrong.

So who is to pay Fedex to collect the tax you owe.

Either shop with a company that collects the tax or pay Fedex.

Pretty good if they're fakes tbh! Pity the minimum order quantity is like 20...

No guarantee the goods you receive match the pictures on the site -
they most likely just lifted the pictures from the A&F site ;)

I'd avoid buying any A&F gear from anywhere but their own shops and
website. They do not allow others to sell their clothes - they don't even
have a discount store in any of the outlet malls.

Luckily I'll be having a work trip in December to US to refresh the 'collection'.

If you ignore that one, it's forgotten about.

Or at least, I haven't been brought to court yet over it.
