have a search back through the forums....there's a free one that's good (I use it for my nephew). It's a womans name, like "sophia" or something like that. Net nanny is supposedly good, but costs money.

    Would that have been NAOMI?

You can check it out along with others here:

I wouldn't let anyone under 12 use the net unsupervised. So no SW needed.

I guess it's a matter for each individuals situation, there's a lot of factors to be considered.

Being paranoid about isn't going to solve the issue for everyone either.

There was an item on it covered by CNN last night & it has the Americans spending so much time spying on their kids that they've had to reduce their Bi weekly visits to the shrink in case they'd miss something

    It depends.

    we do logging :)

The 16 yr old is currently locked out of his network card settings and the Server/Printer/Email is on two subnets.
He is currently on the subnet the gateway/router isn't. ALL the computers have long Internet proof style passwords.

It's not just a matter of education and age. My Sister let her girls use unsupervised from about 8 as far as I can tell.

But where do you start & end with something like netnanny? Those things don't work as well as AV, and AV works poorer than an educated user. A false sense of bubblewrap/ security.

My (now 14) nephew was browsing porn and installing anything that asked him to. One wipe of XP with naomi installed and no priviliges to install software = no more porn or spyware. It's very effective tbh.
