My EOS20d is giving problems with the AF system (this seems to be the story of my life these days!!) ... I gave it to ISS (Image Supply Systems) to get it checked out and I just received a call saying it will cost €190 to get it fixed ... when I asked the guy what is involved in getting it fixed he was all over the place ... but in short he had no clue ... tried to make something up ... and got caught out ...

Has anyone else out there had any experience with getting Canon gear fixed and/or using ISS to do it ?

Ouch, hate that. Maybe you just got an admin person calling you, rather than a tech?

I used ISS before, but dropped in to their office. Much harder for them to BS in person.

At €90 to clean a sensor, I know ISS are not cheap. And they did a poor job at that.

I'd find out whats wrong for sure?

Simon, sorry to hear of your dilema.

It probably costs that much as ISS then realise they cant actually do anything to resolve it and have to send the camera to the UK to be "sorted."

When they quoted me to have my sensor cleaned a while back the lady said they wouldnt actually do it themselves and would send it to canon in the UK to have it done. This is supposed to be their service centre in Ireland - what a waste of fcuking space!!!!!!!!!

Hmnnn ... I sense a discussion with Canon coming on ... anyone else had any experiences with getting Canon gear repaired using Canon's agents in Ireland ?

Wow, when I had my sensor cleaned by them, they did it there, because the day I came in, the guy was actually cleaning it. You can see in to their workshop from their office area.

I guess they would ship the complex stuff to Canon UK.

ISS are the only listed repair centre in Ireland, on the Canon website.

Begs the question, was it an actual ISS employee or someone from Canon UK??

Now that I can't answer. The tech guy cleaning it handed it to another guy who brought it out to me, and charged me.

last april my Canon 1DS had a shutter failure, at the time i hadn't a clue what it was, i think borderfox suggested that it was a shutter prob, anyway as luck would have it ISS were hosting a two day Canon clinic and demo of the 1D MkIII at the end of that month so i called in to them and there were a few fellas there with Canon T-shirts and a guy with a compressed air thing in the inside office - i wasn't impressed.
i handed over my camera and about four of them huddled around it, no one had an iota what was wrong, even though i suggested that it was prob the shutter and described what the image was like that it produced, anyway the guy from ISS took my details and the serial no etc. and told me it'd be brought over by the guys to Canon's place in the UK.

By the time I got it back between the repair VAT courier etc. it cost €500. Sure wasn’t impressed with the cleaning job they allegedly done. Anyhow i've since sold on the camera which was a good buy coz it was readjusted to zero actuations.
I think they (ISS) will pass anything more than a cleaning job to Canon UK.

Looking better already, DML may see a large upsurge in Canon warranty questions & sales!!
