I'm off to NZ on a working holiday visa in April. My flights are booked, i have my visa, I'm pretty much all set! I was just looking at the visa earlier though. I'd forgotten that you can only work for one employer at a time and can't take permanent work. I guess the reason this concerns me is that my bf is from Wellington so we'll be basically doing what we do here. Living somewhere permanently, working and going on lots of nice trips/holidays during the year. It won't be quite the same as other people's working holidays. I'm happy enough with this, but I'm just wondering will temporary work fund this or will I find myself quite restricted! I was just wondering did people find this difficult? What kind of jobs did you do? Did you earn enough money from them?

    Hi watna!

I think if you're boyfriend is from New Zealand he can act as a sponsor for you so you would be able to get a permanent job. Don't know the details of this but I know someone who is moving over permanently and they can do this because they're in a serious relationship with someone from New Zealand. This may involve a lot of paperwork and may not be what you want to do if you are only staying a year.

You could get temp office work, might not be 100% reliable but good money! Some companies will sponsor you if you start on a temporary contract and then you can work permanently. Also may not suit if you are only staying a year.
Maybe both you and your boyfriend can get temp contacts of a few months at a time and then can go off travelling in between these?

    Good luck!

Thanks for the answer. Yes my bf can sponsor me for a permanent residency visa. You have to provide evidence of being in a serious relationship. We have all this (live together, joint account etc I have a big folder of stuff for if/when we get this visa) However I want to see how i get on in NZ before we get this as it's fairly permanent, especially as my bf can only ever sponsor 1 person to move to NZ. I think he wants to make sure I'm happy there before making a commitment!

He'll be doing a masters when we get there. I'll have a good bit saved up but I guess I'll have to give temping a try and see how it works out. Fingers crossed!
