DTP - recognised certification and best program to specialise in?

I hope I'm on the right forum here! I've been interested in learning about DTP and getting a recognised certification in either Quarkxpress or Indesign CS.

    My questions are this:

There seems to be a lot of courses offered for either program and some even for DTP without any specified one. What are the certifications that are most recognised by the industry?

Are individual college's certifications worth the paper they're printed on?

Is Quarkxpress still the dominant package it was ten years ago? Is Indesign worth mastering vocationally?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!
