Does anyone know where/how I can get a replacement spare key for a 2004 polo? It has key operated central locking and no buttons on the key for anything.

Any ballpark guesstimates on cost would be appreciated too!

    Thanks

Looking at a lot of hassel. I hope your near Dublin. You need to bring everything you have that proves you own the car to a VW dealrship[ Log book, etc,] and ID. The garage then go cut a key, and your looking at about a hour and a half for them to code the key. Bout E 150. Or go to a scapryard and replace the lock , probably work out the same price

If you have one key it shouldnt be that much bother - from what you are saying there is no chip in the key, just a key - the chip is the hassle and where "coding" comes into the equation.

Even if the key does have a chip, you can get blank keys from ebay and code them yourself according to the VAG forums

As you have 2004 Polo, it will have an immobiliser transponder (chip) in the key. This will need to be programmed or the engine will not start. You can get this done in any VW dealer. There are other car security specialists around that can also do the job. One thing to bear in mind - when you do go to have the new key cut and coded, be sure to bring every key that you have for the car to the dealer. Any keys you don't bring will not be included in the system when you get the new key coded.

you defo have an immobiliser on that car, and the key will cost you around 150ish from dealers, you cant just change the lock for a second hand one because you would need the ECU aswell and thats a lot of hassle., as for lock smiths, they cant copy these new VW keys because they use a krypto system unlike a lot of the older cars.,
I got a price of €156 for a new key for an A4 which uses the same system.,
