Apologies if this has been asked before - I did do a search but maybe missed it!

When I play a youtube video, it stops and starts every couple of seconds. Most frustrating.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Moved to Comp/Tech.
What kind of internet connection have you got? Try clearing your cache on your browser and see if it makes any difference.

How fast is your internet connection?

Has the video finished buffering (loading to your computer)?

It could just be that your connection is a little slow so it is taking a while for the video to load fully and it is showing faster than it can buffer.

As the folks above said, probably connection related. 1 little trick you can use is to pause the video as soon as it starts playing, it will continue to download in the backround, then press play after maybe 5 or 10 seconds. This gives a chance to download ahead of playing so the playing is catching up on the amount downloaded.
Or else get a faster connection...

same thing is happening to me too lately actually.. have a 1mb symmetric wireless connection which is grand for everything else (including other streaming media sites) but skips and lags on youtube. Most annoying. If I try a video on youtube, it'll stall within the first 10/15 seconds and continue to do so throughout the duration. If I then try a video on say metacafe, it'll play perfectly.

Might bump the connection to 2mb..

Thank you all so much for the replies. Am going to try some of those suggestions.

I am on Wireless Broadband so I can't see that it should be that making it slow. Will try clearing the caches and give it a whirl...

    Many thanks

Best thing you can do when you see that happening is hit pause, and wait for the rest of the video to cache.

It's pretty much youtube's problem... not yours unless you have a really ****e connection

Yup. Even on a fast line ive seen youtube videos buffer slowly. Sometimes their servers are just being pushed to hard and cant supply the b/w needed for the few million people watching the funny cat clips.
