If i pick psychology in my arts in my first year . So if i get 60% in my first year exam do i get on to the GY104 course ???.
Several places in second year of the denominated B.A. in Psychology (GY104) are available to students on the B.A. (Omnibus Entry) - GY101, based on performance in First Arts Psychology.
That can be found on http://www.qualifax.ie/viewdoc.php?doc=crs1767

No, to get into the demoninated course you'd have to get over 90%. a friend of mine got the offer to go from arts into psychology and she took it. There's only a few offers like that and even if you do get a high mark you may still not get in.

15 from the leaving cert, usually in excess of 560 points, and the top 15 psych results from first year get on the GY104 (afaik usually in the high 80s or higher). the next 75 then get offered to keep it up as a normal subject on the GY101. the top 15 route is pretty competitive but it's still doable.

I'm doing final psychology and I know that every year the cut off varies depending on the ability of the top students usually somewhere between (75 and 84%). 75 is considered quite low but 84 is the highest I've ever heard it was at so aim for AT LEAST 80.

The standard isn't too high in first year so don't feel disheartened if you see over 200 people in your class.

You only get 4 assignments in the 2 semesters and this is soft marks. Alot of people can't reference or use citations and lose marks for it. The trick is to use a seperate page for references and to use the format outlined in the student guide. EASY MARKS.

The exam is short answer questions. Stick exclusively to the prescribed chapters of the course book and your lecture notes. Questions don't really go beyond this in scope so don't waste precious study time reading loads of other stuff (unless your interested of course).

Overall the standard in 1st year is easy enough. Don't worry too much. Keep going through the notes and you'll be fine. Even if you don't get into GY104 you can do psychological studies and 1 extra subject for your degree. Hence pick other subjects now that you really enjoy just in case. 1 extra year on a HDip conversion and your sorted as well.

Well I went to Sligo IT and I have not interest in it at all or any IT (I went with the school) everyone was going to miss school . Its the worse place I ever saw inside a college !! . So what the college like ?? . Is it hard to make friends . Is it like UCD that no one talk to the next person next to you ?? does this happen at Galway ??. So whats the teaching like ??? great or ok . and what the camps like to live on . Thanks of your help again :)

Galway is definitely one of the most friendly places about. The student accom is okay, Corrib village is for you if craic>academic stuff for you. Otherwise avoid living there, just go to house parties and crap there. Dont know bout the other ones tbh but Corrib is the main 1st year one.
