Extension is freezing, how to keep warm?

We put a flat roofed extension onto our house two years ago and it gets very cold in Winter.

The builders put a radiator in it but we need to have an electric heater running all day from now until March. There may be the odd draft coming under the skirting, perhaps it wasn't sealed very well.

Sorry I don't know the technical terms for the stuff used but it's your usual fluffy insulation on the roof under wooden panels and that kind of tar like waterproof lining on the roof covered with stones.

I'm wondering what the best thing to do is - the wife wants a gas fire but if there's a large amount of heat escaping through the roof perhaps it would be better to look into trying to insulate it a bit better?

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it wasn't insulated correctly, the regs 2 years agoe were at a decent standard in terms of required level of insulation and an extension shouln't be uncomfortably cold.

I'm thinking that might be the case. The builders were the onsite foreman and his team of (probably underpaid) Romanians. Do I have any comeback? :( How can I find out what the regulations should have been?

What type of lighting was installed in the extension? Were they recessed downlighters by any chance?

I had same on house I bought but it was 20 years old. Garage conversion, flat roof and no insulation on any walls. Was like a freezer even in the summer.

I converted the flat roof into pitched roof and put loads of insulation on top of the existing flat roof. It is not that difficult to do if you have some DIY skills and trust me, mine aren't great. Had a friend to advise me what to do. Lined all the internal walls with dry lining with the insulation already attached to the back ( Kingspan Panels ). Room is toasty now with just one radiator and total cost doing it myself was €1500.
