Yup this a fantastic film. It's a strange beast - I have watched it twice, both times absolutely loved it, then forgotton by the next morning what the hell it was all about. It's like a whirlwind tour of philosophy, with some fantastic speeches, great stories and mind-bending visuals. One of the most intelligent films of the last couple of years anyway.

It's a shame that a Scanner Darkly doesn't share the same magical quality as this, although it is clear that Linklater is a big Phillip K Dick fan - theres a wonderful cameo appearance by the director himself talking about Flow My Tears the Policeman said near the end of WL.

It's a shame that Linklater often has some misfires in between the Waking Lifes and Before Sunsets. If he was a little more consistent quality wise, he would definitely by counted as one of the indie greats. He should certainly stick to lower budgets, as the results are always spectacular, while larger budget efforts like Fast Food Nation can be very hit and miss.

love waking life, seen it far too many times to count. Most of it's absolute twaddle, but it's a damned fine movie to stick on, enjoy the fantastic visuals and just think about what's going on. No trying to follow plot, not really any character development... just stuff. Awesome stuff. Love the Irish guy.

Just saw this last night for the first time and I have to admit at first, I didn't know what to make of it, and indeed the fact I was watching it with others is the only thing that prevented me from turning it off. But it's worth hanging in there, because after an initial overwhelming opening of intense soliloquy about some very odd and hard to follow concepts, it's an incredible film that explores dreams and the concept of reality in ways you couldn't begin to imagine. Very thought provoking film. I would recommend it to anyone.
