As you can guess I am getting paid monthly and finding it a pain in the $&*%!! I have been trying to rationalise why but I have not come up with a reason that justifies monthly paymeny over weekly/forthnightly!!

I know it may save a small bit on administration but when you work in a business of aroud 30 employees and 25 of them get paid weekly I dont think that this is a legitamite reason. By the way I am on a salary of apposed to a wage.

Because most people prefer to be paid monthly?
I prefer to get my rent, bills and savings out of the way as soon as I get paid - I couldn't cover all that with one weeks wage.

Why don't you learn how to budget your money better?

I had been paid weekly for 4 years and thought that switching to being paid monthly would be difficult but I've actually found it easier to save. As eth0 said, you can get your bills sorted out and then you know how much is left for you.

Most grown up jobs pay monthly. It's just the way it is.

With proper budgeting you shouldn't notice any difference.

just arrange your bills to come out a couple of days after you're due to be paid. This way everything you need to pay comes out of your wages straight away and then you can organize how you want to spend whats left over.

Arrange it so your car / insurance / sky / mortgage comes out on a date thats close enough to when you're paid. Then if you fancy saving some money too (good option) arrange for that direct debit to be paid around this time too. Then whatever money you've left at this point is yours to spend my friend! Just divide it by the number of weeks you've left until your next pay day and thats you're weekly budget.

I get paid weekly at the moment, and with a mortgage coming out monthly I've to make sure I leave a certain amount in my account weekly in order for my mortgage to be covered at the end of the month.

Was in a job about 4 years ago that was monthly and it was alot handier.

Having said that the 5 weeks months CAN be a pain in the arse...but sure you live with it.

True, it saves the accounts dept time (= money) by doing just 12 payroll runs a year instead of 52.

Most office / desk based jobs are this way and a few firms pay their warehouse / manual staff weekly (very weakly some would argue ;) )

Jan will prob be the toughest month because a lot of people are skint after crimbo, but with some careful budgeting you should get used to it in no time.

If budgeting is an issue try using this calculator. It's pretty good it's come up with every possible kind of expensive and you can decide whether they are weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.

As other posters mentioned having your DD's and SO's setup to come out of your account a week to 10 days after you get paid is handy too. Then they're out of the way.

I get paid monthly on a specified date. Unfortunately it's in the 2nd week of every month. But my rent is due the first of the month which means I have to remember sometimes not to spend my rent money. If I could I would change to a couple of days after I get paid instead of 3 weeks after

    Cheers everyone,

The reason it has been a pain is that its my first job out of college, I started work in the middle of the month therefore leaving me with half a months wage to do me a month. Chritmas is going to be very costly and I still have a few hundred euro left to pay off collage laons, so that what was grinding my gears about the monthly pay.

I agree that when I get sorted ie. debt free (probably next february or March) I should find the benefit of it then. Should be getting a new car then so I will make sure the car loan is due the first of the month as to get it out of the way!
