    Hi,

I'm still on the lookout for a new laptop for my business.
It needs to have a large Hard drive >160 Gig and a good whack of Ram.
Also May use for the occasional bit of Gaming - don't tell the tax man :)
The budget can go to around €1500 Ex VAT (about €1800 with VAT).
But around €1300 Ex VAT is preferable.
I am thinking of the following Vostro on Dell for €1299 Ex VAT and Deliv:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz FSB)
    Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate (32Bit) - English
Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support
    15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™
Matte Jet Black with 2.0 mega pixel camera
    4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
    250GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
    256MB nVidia® GeForce® 8600M GT
    Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
    Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)

    Any thoughts??...

    Thanks as always

    Mik

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you upgraded the ram and hard drive on that laptop. Would I be correct? Don't do that dell will rip you off on the upgrades. If you buy it elsewhere and install it yourself it will work out a lot cheaper.

Look here second from the bottom. 250GB hard drive. Both most likely cheaper than it was to upgrade on dell plus you can sell the parts on adverts and make a bit of money.

Yep you got it in one :)
I was actually looking on Crucial and had the same thought.
I reckon I could upgrade the ram handy enough but never replaced a laptop hard drive.
Also was a wee bit worried about in-validating my warranty....

    Woo Hoo... 1000th Post :)

Both ram and hard drives are easy to upgrade. I don't think it invalidates the warranty but you should ring and ask. If the new hard drive fails though dell won't replace it. You'll have to take it to whoever you bought it off. Also you could get an 500GB external hard drive for around €120 instead of the internal drive. This leaves you with 660GBs of space for the same money. :)

Yeah - had a look @ the IBM and levono but I'm not too impressed.
I reckon I could get more Vostro for my money..

Any opinions on HP - I seen some nice shiny ones today

    I'm a sucker for shiny things :)
