Just got the system yesterday and when i was playing a game earlier on the system crashed so i had to turn it off via the mains and after that it would not start.
The computer powered on all the fans and lights came on but there was no display(screen just black and no vista running)and there is a strange ticking noise from the hard drive, i am running 2 8800gtx's and both seem to be running fine as i got the computer running awhile ago,my monitor is also ok,

Finally got it to come on, have been fidling around for the past hour or so but i cant shut the system down. when i shut down it goes through the whole process of shutting down but when u expect the actual power to go off on the system it just stays on.all the fans and everything stay on.

    HELP!!!!!

If the computer was working fine before you started using the game, then I would suspect the game.

Try restoring your Registry settings to an earlier time. Click on Start / Help and Support / System Restore and select the radio button "Restore my computer to an earlier time".

Then restart your system. If you cannot do this from the Start button, hold in the on/off button on your CPU for ~30 seconds or until it switches off.

Hopefully it is now running as expected.

You should install and run some anti-virus software if you haven't already, as soon as possible. I suggest AVG Anti-Virus available free from Grisoft.com.

Try clearing the CMOS, It's normally a jumper on the Mobo or some boards have a little push button. Check your Mobo Spec.
