I finally got everything I need and got out for an hour or two to experiment.

    Equipment:
    - Nikon D70s
    - Sigma 17-70 2.8
    - Cokin 87b infrared filter with square mount
    - Piece of cloth to block awful light leakage from said filter.
    - Sturdy tripod
    - Bike

It was overcast and just starting to get dark (barely 3 in the afternoon). I went exploring in Marlay Park which I haven't been to in years. As online guides had suggested, I white balanced on some green grass and starting shooting. Exposures were generally quite long and my new tripod made a good showing of itself.

I'm still experimenting, but here's a few I thought had some merit.

This was shot on 17mm so its got some vingetting, though I think I like it.

I'd throw this one out were it not for the house in the centre.

    By far my favourite:

What I would really like to know though is, why are the skies coming out in that tan/sepia colour?

The last one is magic. Got an eerie feel to it. Great

There's a very haunting quality to them alright... cool.

They look a little underexposed to mine eye.

You need to feck with your WB in post production. Or you could try setting a custom WB on a patch of grass before you shoot.

TBH overcast days aren't brilliant for IR, summer when the sun is low in the sky behind you seems to give good results.

Love the last one though. With a bit of colour correction it'd be the business.
