How does one get a website dot someting domain? Why is dot com cheaper and what about dot net in Ireland? I am researching it but do not see clear explanation of why they must be bought from reseller?

    Thanks

There is no such thing as a .something

Any joe soap cant just say "Im setting up a domain".

It must be done through a registrar who sets it up. not nessecarily a reseller.

    Try www.godaddy.com
It'll give you a good idea of what domains are available in relation to .net, .com etc etc

arguably the easiest and cheapest way to set up a domain ( .com / .net / .info ) is to use google

    http://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new

You get free hosting via googlepages (very basic) with unlimited bandwidth (afaik) and 200 4GB email accounts with the gmail interface and free spam/virus control.

DNS management is included so you can change hosting after - if you want FTP access or whatever.

    Cost : €6 ($10) / year

Time to create : about 10 minutes
