Having trouble phrasing my work duties on my CV

I have to put a CV together and I don't know what exactly to write for the bullet points under my work experience. I'm hoping if it's not too much trouble someone could advise me on how best to present this information.

My most recent job was last summer working as a cashier in Paddy Power. In the morning I put up the newspapers, switched on the TV's and stocked up on the dockets and pens. After that I sat behind the counter for the day really. That involved taking bets and money off customers. The bet was scanned through into the computer and they got a receipt and their change if any. We then had to use the Epos system to "translate" the bets into something the computer would understand. That meant when someone came up with their winning receipt we could scan it in, double check it was translated correctly from the screen and give the customer whatever total came up on the screen.

We'd have to phone the race room if a customer puts on a big bet. We have to look out for scammers. You'll usually have some sort of trouble with a customer every day. It's pretty daunting when you only start. You get trained about "slow counts" who come up to the counter just before a dog race is about to start and hope you scan the bet in. If you do they'll count their money slowly while listening to the commentary in the background. If their dog doesn't win they'll do a runner or claim that they put down €2.50 instead of €250.

Obviously a lot of the above info is useless. What else? My roster was changed constantly. I mean every day or 2. I never complained and quite a few times I went into work on an hours notice and worked three 12 hour shifts in a row. I worked in 6 or 7 shops on the northside in my time there and by the end I was hardly working in the shop I was appointed to, I was pretty much on relief.

I was going to do tell you my duties for another job but I doubt anyone would read the thread so I'll leave it at that for now. :D

If you're going for another job in a bookies, then use specifics of what you did.
If you just want it for general reference / other job, use broad titles:
    eg:
*Stock control - this was putting out the newspapers and stocking up on the dockets.
    *Answering customer queries
    *Data gathering etc..
*Compliance and data check with head office
Basically, put broad basics you learnt and dealt with. It shouldn't be that hard.

Just doing this off the top of my head to give you somethin to work with..........

In the morning I put up the newspapers, switched on the TV's and stocked up on the dockets and pens.

-Ensured the [area] was clean and appropriately stocked

After that I sat behind the counter for the day really. That involved taking bets and money off customers.

-Dealt with customers on a regular basis
    -Handled large sums of money
    -...something to do with bets

The bet was scanned through into the computer and they got a receipt and their change if any.

-Routinely used computers to process bets
-Used tills on a regular basis

We then had to use the Epos system to "translate" the bets into something the computer would understand.

-Used EPOS system to analyse bets (maybe have something prepared on this, in case they ask you to explain)

We'd have to phone the race room if a customer puts on a big bet.

    -...something about using the phone

We have to look out for scammers.

-Dealt with any security situations that arose (something like that!)

That's all that I can think of........
