So winter time has come around again, likewise has the heavy colds and the flu and the consequent runny nose.

how do you deal w/ your nose when it runs like a tap when you're riding along?

i dont like to wipe it off w/ my gloves, and all the blowing your nose before you head off doesnt help ten mins later when the dripping starts.

    wear a neckwarmer thing.

Sneezing is the worst though, the runny nose I can deal with, its the whiplash from the sneeze that gets me.

Being honest, my nose generally doesn't run while on the bike - for some reason.

I agree with nereid.. sneezing is the worst...
Specially when the big greener lands on the inside of the chinbar, and you know it just milimeters from your lips....

this is the sort of runny nose that streams out along your face ni the wind. it'll just accumulate in massive wet patches in the neckwarmer

Neck tube up over the nose and mouth, bandit style. It stops your nose from running unless you have a bad cold and it absorbs most of the remaining discharge. You will have some damp patches but it beats it running down your face. Just make sure you wash it often!

You have an open face helmet?

get a full face one and you won't have the wind blowing around you.

if you do have one, close the visor down :p

i have a full face one. but if i put the visor all the way down it fogs up, so there's usually a finger sized gap.

tis a fierce bad cold, starting to clear up but no doubt i'll be struck down by something similar later in teh winter.

I recommend you do either of the following options:
    1) get a "foggy" breath deflector
    2) get a pinlock insert for your visor

if you wear glasses, you may need to do both of the above, because I found that the pinlock kept the visor clear, the glasses got fogged up. The foggy sorts that out nicely.

TBH if I was really feeling that miserable I wouldn't ride. It doesn't do your concentration or reaction time any good when you'd rather be tucked up in bed with a Lemsip. Explain to your boss that you don't want to infect everyone else at work... ;)

@nereid - I have both a pinlock and a foggy, necessary to keep glasses/sunglasses clear. Pinlock came with the lid, but on its own was eventually defeated by condensation anyway, as the moisture needs to escape. The foggy channels it out of the helmet. I suppose I could remove the pinlock, but there's no point.

Disposable contact lenses are great for those dark wet evenings, no looking around your glasses on lifesavers, no worries about fogging, and often you get sharper vision with them.

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
