Got a letter today from the fraud manager of the AIB saying
they have been trying to ring me about possible fraudulent transactions
on my credit card. (I watch my card transactions Like a Hawk and check everything every day) I reckon my recent Hong Kong purchases have
raised a few eyebrows! good to know they are checking. Will ring em tomorrow.

3V had HUGE fees when they first began but i beleive they've become more reasonable. Paypal All the way though!

    BTW: off topic.

    BTW: off topic.

Maybe not so off topic after all!
Rang credit card services a while ago the said they
have to lock down my card and issue me a new one with a different number.
Visa had contacted them saying some cards may have been compromised.
(That will feck up my 24hr online, paypal and etc etc etc)

I have only used my card or rather should I say may paypal account
which charges my card for Airsoft purchases only.

Been buying online for over 10 years and this is my first ever issue.
Hopefully I wont be calling it the curse of the Star AW338.

They specifically asked me about my purchase with Redwolf arisoft
and were concerned that some "merchants" customer details may have been
    hacked.

    GRRRrrrrr....

Mildly off-topic; what do you need to set up a pay-pal account?

Merchants do not have access to your CC details when you pay by Paypal, nor to your Paypal password, only to your Paypal ID (which is your Paypal email address).

Only possible misuse of Paypal, to my knowledge, is if you get succesfully phished.

Only possible misuse of CC details, to my knowledge, is if the card scheme (VISA, mastercard, etc.) or your bank or Paypal themselves got hacked.

I'd be interested to hear how/why/etc., if you come across more/further info and are in a position to provide it :)

@ Genghiz - an email address and a credit card, debit card or bank account (personally, been using Paypal practically since they started, but I'd never link actual bank details with with).

Good practice with Paypal and any other such site is to have a "direct debit credit card" (so, say a Mastercard with instant debit, not monthly bill) *specifically* for use with online purchases, with no authorised overdraft/credit limit, and you just top up the account in dribs & drabs when you're going to buy stuff (I rarely have more than €200 in mine ;) - also helps keeping spending habits in check :D). That way, if it gets hacked/phished/misused, the most you'll lose *at worst* is whatever's in the account, as the card scheme/bank will automatically block any overspend.

Of course, not many CC merchants would like to you do that and be sensible types and whatnot ;)

nah I have not been phished.
I am a paranoid type of guy that checks everything possible
security wise and 2nd guesses everything and trusts no-one you get the drift.

Only past purchases barr a few regularly standing charges have been to airsoft products through my paypal account. Speaking on the phone they
targeted the 9th Nov when I purchased through redwolf airsoft.

My CC records now on my 24 hr banking I cannot access due
to the card getting locked down.

NOT a good evening for me.
One more reason to buy Irish!!!!!!
