5.1 setup on desktop

Been trying to tweak the settings on the desktop for a better output to 5.1 speakers, problem is i get very little volume from the rear speakers you need to put your ear right up to it to hear it. And I cant see any settings in vista / soundcard software that makes any difference to this. Kit i'm using is : logitec x-530…

Kit i'm using is :
logitec x-530 5.1 speakers
creative live 24bit external with latest driver

movies are generally better sounding but I would like a bit more volume from the rear speakers when listening to music.
