Hi, first post in this forum, long time observer though. I am wondering has anyone else had any problems dealing with tekmo? I have been looking around for a good while for a DSLR and decided on the basis of that thread here a while back to get a canon 400d body only for £339 off tekmo and buying the lense separately etc. I placed the order three weeks ago and have not got it yet. I did get a phone call after a couple of days to say it would be another week but that has now been two weeks ago. I have emailed them twice but got no response. Fairly cheesed off now, especially when they charged my credit card straight away, arent too slow at taking your money...thinking about cancelling my order and getting a refund.

BTW great forum, the feedback given here is really good, its good to see people that are passionate about photograpy share knowledge and advice, doesnt happen everywhere!

Wow, that's a long time to wait. Normally when I order from Kea-Photo in HK, I get the order in 3 days.

Hopefully your camera will arrive soon.

I order 400d on the 4th of November off them, received it on the 12th. Took 5 working days.

Did you order delivery through DHL or normal post? If normal, then it'll take a while. I think I was waiting over four weeks for my 50mm from Kea in HK..

    Oh and welcome aboard :)

Was thinking of doing that myself when i saw the price let us know if you used overland or a courier

When I orded the 400d last week, there is no option to select delivery as delivery was free.
I ordered it on a sunday and it shipped on Tuesday

Finally got a phone call. The guy said it was shipped about two weeks ago. After my email he contacted DHL who said the parcel ended up in Chesire and got 'stuck' there. Now its missing. The guy was fairly apologetic, said that they dont have a tracking system so the only time he knows there is a problem is when a customer complains. He said that they wont have any in stock until next wednesday and basically left it up to myself to decide if i wanted a refund or wait another while. I decided that i may as well wait since i have waited this long. Incidentally their website claims that 90% of orders get delivered in 5 days. Does anyone think i should have looked to get some discount or something for the inconvience? The thought crossed my mind but i am fairly lousy at doing that type of thing...

I'm not sure how you will get on looking for a discount but it never hurts to try. I got a camera and lens off them last month and had no problems, I'm about to send off for the rebate too so if I get that I will be one happy camper.

But as I said earlier, Tekmo.co.uk deliver for free to uk and ireland, and as far as im aware they do not give you a choice on what delivery method, but im sure it is dhl/parcelforce or the likes

*tnt is what they used for mine

the fact that they contacted you is a good sign....
damn I didn't go with that deal when I heard about your problem went with Kea in hong kong got a good price but not as good as yours.

    Hi ,
I can add to this .....
i ordered on the 2nd of Jan for a 1D Mark 3 and its the 25th and still no sign of it...
Im silling to wait because the price was good but its still a lot of money to be waiting around on....
I did get mails and calls from them so they are a company ( If thats what you want to call someone who simply imports goods from Aisa and sells them on).
At the start they said that they made a mistake and ordered in 5D's instead but reorded again and now its being shippined from Hong kong and stuck in Customs at the moment.

if your looking for a good deal and can wait then i guess you can go for them but if your need the camera fairly quickly and can affored that price then look else where.

Hope that helps....will up date post on when i get it in Dublin.
    mac

well, i had a barrow load of fun with tekmo, heres the shorten version:

    ordered in october

got a call after a week & was told that it would be another week

waited two weeks no sign and no contact

mailed them, two days later a guy called and said that the parcel was lost
said they had none in stock and were due in and i should have it in about ten days

i mailed them after the ten days and i got a reply saying they couldnt supply and offered me a refund (that was the 29th november) which i decided to accept.

dec 14th i mailed them asking what was the status of my refund to which they replied that it
"We have processed your refund and this will be with you shortly as
sometimes thier are delays as it goes through a third party payment
    provider"

3 days later i got this email
"Your refund has benn authorised and credited back on your card within
    the next 3-7 days ,"

i waited until i got my credit card statement at the end of december which did not show any credit, so i mailed them again and after a couple of days on jan 3 they finally replied
"We can confirm this refund has been processed and it maybe the case
that it probably a problem with your bank you need to find out and get
back to us please so we can look at this for you from support,"

i rang my credit card company and they said they could pursue a refund on my behalf if i filled up a chargeback form which they would send me. i mailed tekmo letting them know what i was doing, i got a call the following day asking if i had gone through with the chargeback, and when i said i hadnt the guy asked me to email their sales team formally requesting a refund
i did this and i believe my credit card has been credited (havent got my statement yet but i checked on the phone and my balance shows the refund)

so if you want my advice get on top of them and get your money back

Wow. I bought from kea-photo. Ordered last Wed evening (8pm), and had the camera in my hands Monday morning.

No issues at all, and tracked all the way.

Given that the merchandise is sourced in or shipped from Hong Kong, what's the tax/customs situation with orders from Kea, Tekmo or any of the other HK-based suppliers?

Has anyone been hit with a duty or VAT bill or anything like that? I know that Kea, for example, guarantee "No duty/VAT to the UK", but what about Ireland?

UPDATE: I notice that Tekmo have recently started listing prices both inclusive and exclusive of VAT. Has anyone tried ordering from them since? What's the situation?

(Just to be clear: I'm not looking for advice on dodging the tax, I just want to know whether it might need to be factored into the cost or not. If you don't want to get into it on a public forum then feel free to PM me.)

    Thanks.
