hey i think this is a scam mate....it has been going around for awhile...do not click any links in the email to get to ebay. close your browser, open it and goto www.ebay.com. Then login using your original password. Then CHANGE your password.

As it looks like the spoofers have your old password.

If it is a scam then how would the scam work?

There are no links in the mail and therefore the OP is only trying to access their own account.

OP - Lets hope EBay believe your email..... Otherwise you may have lost your account.

    Cal.

I had a very similar experience about 2 weeks ago. I just posted an item for sale and they removed it and reset my password because they thought someone else was accessing my account and I got a mail similar to yours.

I guess they have some fairly stringent automation that is well-intentioned in booting you off but it's a bit of a blunt instrument. In my case I posted the item from outside Ireland and I guessed when they saw the IP address coming from somewhere other than Ireland their security kicked into gear. It was frustrating but as soon as I got talking to someone on the live chat it was sorted within minutes. They've also removed that security check from my account so I can do the same thing again without a problem.

What irked me a little was that their default position is that everyone's an idiot when it comes to security online so we'll protect you all with our big stick rather than my own not particularly granny friendly policy of if your stupid enough to comprimise your own security then tough shi1t but we dont want to unnecessarily irritate the large majority of people who have an idea what they're doing.
