A good example of why only morons use unprotected electronic equipment in the pissing rain. Should have had a decent rain cover, not a plastic bag.

Electronics + water = trouble. I'm actually surprised how well he was able to dry it out and get it working again.

It always pays to have a rain cover, even just for damp conditions.

I have a good Kata rain cover for mine.

What is a rain cover? I would have assumed that shooting a camera inside any protective (plastic?) cover is going to render the images very soft and unusable? I use a golf umbrella...

Oh come on this is the age of microwaves. I'm sure a few minutes would fix it right up :)

hey these people are the same one's who put their pets in the oven to dry them off.

A rain cover, like Kata 702 is a very effective rain cover. It has openings for your hands, an opening for the lens, and is mostly made of clear plastic so you can see what you're doing.

I've used mine in very heavy rain before, the camera staying totally dry. I think, with our weather, that a rain cover is invaluable.

So the lens is still exposed to the rain but the body stays dry right? - I suppose that's why people pay for the weathersealing on lenses :)

It's only the end of the lens that is exposed. And your lens hood will protect that from rain.

It certainly works well. No matter how "weather sealed" a camera is, I'd prefer to safe rather than sorry.
