The GAA player Oisin McConville plugging his book "The Gambler". Also on the show Paddy Power of Paddy Power and Dave Kingston of The Fitzwilliam Card Club.

The Fitz has 42,000 members !

"The Gambler" ? Didn't Fydor Dosteyevsky bring that out a few years ago ?

The show is the usual slagging of gambling/gamblers. Lots of bad beat stories.

I watched that GAA guy on The Late Late show (someone rang me ok!), and I happen to be rereading Dostoevsky's The Gambler at the moment...how can I put this...comparing the GAA chap's insights to Dostoevsky's is like comparing God with a new haircut holding a royal flush to a vomiting hamster choking on a joker card with Richard Gere unbuttoning his trousers beside him.

I'm not into GAA and had never heard of McConville, he may be a bona fide sporting hero, but he's a moron.

Anyhoos what I wanted to ask was - what was this show?

it all makes sense about McConville now - i remember hearing stories about him quiting his job to concentrate 100% on training for the GAA etc - but he obviously quit to become a full time degenarate gambler

Seoige and O'Shea ia an afternoon chat show patterened after the highly successful  Richard & Judy show.

    http://www.rte.ie/tv/seoigeandoshea/text.html

    Today's show

    Relative Values:
Today we meet one of the best-known father and son teams in politics - Jackie and Michael Healy-Rae. Popular for their penchant for flat caps, today they talk about their relationship, careers, lives and loves.

    Paranormal Zone:
Our paranormal reporter, Evelyn O'Rourke this week meets fairy expert Eddie Lenihan, and finds out that fairies are not the sparkling winged creatures we all expect, but could be something much more sinister.

    David Kelly and Barretstown:
One of Ireland's best-loved actors, David Kelly, tells us about his involvement with Barretstown, after he launched the "Sam's Cookies Chocolate Fudge Cake for Barretstown" campaign. This campaign will help to raise funds for Barretstown, which organises camps for ill children and their families.
Also to talk about the amazing work of Barretstown, we will have the CEO, Peter Scallan, and a family who have benefited from the camps.

    Talking Point:
In his newly published autobiography "The Gambler," footballer Oisín McConville reveals the horrors of his gambling addiction. We ask, is gambling a problem in Ireland today? We'll hear comments from the streets and the experts, and we'll also hear opinions from you at home.

As you can see from today's listing, its a "disengage brain / don't bother doing much research" show.

just finished this book today. if your a gaa fan esp of the armagh team that dominated the north for the past 8/9years(ulster in particular), i would say get it! there is one chapter that deals with his addiction and while i found it interesting one chapter was not enough to fully explain his problem. overall not a bad read for the xmass.
    sound siobhan/shiobhan/ conn/connie/ connie long legs:cool:

jesus that a bit harsh man. he did actually train full time for a year and it was after his rehab.a very good friend of mine had a similar condition and 7uck me
it has taken him the best part of two years to finally stop. its a 7ucked up addiction , when your an alcholic you might drink 50/100euro a day but a gambler could lose 10 k in 20 minutes and no one would be all the wiser! i would not wish it on my worst enemy!
