I am a Oz virgin :D and want some advice on a first time visit to help maximise a short trip.
I arrive into Brisbane and after taking 3 days to recover from flights and look around Brisbane area, I plan to hire a car and drive north for 3 days.… Fraser Island, Whitsundays, etc. My plan is to leave Brisbane on a Thursday morning, but I have to be in Toowoomba by the Sunday night. I know its not much time, but am willing to drive to see the best sight. What should I see / where should I go. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Also 3 days in Brisbane area… I have read the tourist sites, but any personal recommendations?

There is not much to see on the way to Toowomba tbh, it is directly inland, so even by going out of your way not much to see. You won't see much of the Whitsundays or Fraser in 3 days either I'm afraid. Apart from the gold coast and Surfers Paradise to the south, there isn't that much to see, and even there tbh you would need to like tourists and seaside party resorts.

I liked Brisbane, it was very relaxed, but apart from just strolling along the river into town and sitting in the cbd watching women I can't think of much I did there in the few weeks I spent there apart from drink.

Guidebooks give you a good idea about Brisbane, but most of the attractions are around the city rather than in it. Whitsundays are definitely out as they are a good 14+ hrs non-stop drive from Brisbane and considering you basically have to come back to Brisbane to get to Toowoomba, you're not going to see anything.

I would recommend splitting your time between Brisbane, Fraser Is and the Gold or Sunshine Coast. You'll get the main tourist spots but not terribly long car trips.
