in general a normal boxing session would be 5-10 min warm up followed by 5-6rounds of bags skipping and then shadow boxing, thats 15-18 rounds, then you can do the same again only for 2-3 rounds each 1 followed by pad work or sparring, pad work is the most valuable part of boxing training if you have a good pad man! if your training right you should be capable enough to call yourself a boxer now, to be a competitive boxer? have a few novice fights and see you how you get on, keep it up and come back if you want anymore advise, its good that you have a genuine interest in the great sport..

yeah it's a brilliant sport and everyone involved in it is dead sound.btw very tough going fitness wise, did 2 rounds of pads yesterday and was exhausted could barely lift my arms!and same with bags, about 2 rounds of 2 mins and arms falling off me lol i think my jab is decent as is my cross, working on left hook technique right now hard to get right aswell as the uppercut.aswell was doing pads the trainer could easily pick holes in my defence saying he could see the whole of my face at points and to get my hands higher so he couldnt come in with a hook either...very enjoyable...what standard would my first fight be do you reckon,4 rounds seems an eternity:-) oo and btw what is the goal of shadow boxing..like you can do it at hoem when your bored etc so its great but should you punch hard,or just not extend the punches fully and not hit hard or what should you be working on

Your 1st fight should be against someone of similar standard and idealy only be 3 rounds, you will get fitter so keep it up, the point of shadow boxing is to perfect technique and get a cardio workout aswell-use the mirror to make sure your punching correct and trying to cover up as much as feels comfortable and natural, not everyone has a tight guard! some rely more on fast footwork and head movement, aim for speed when shadow boxing but make sure technique is not neglected!! keep us up to date..

Hey Nenagh.....I think UCD is only open to students and/or ex students and staff but you could always give them a ring and see........as for other clubs check out iaba.ie and click on affilated clubs, that will tell were the clubs are located and the neccesary contact numbers.Hope this helps.Best of luck
