    hi all,

i play sports and am quite fit but recently when im at the gym if i use the treadmill for more than about 20/25 minutes the insides of my legs gets really badly chaffed. because i go to the gym nearly every day or play football the rash really hurts when i run.

i have tried wearing no underwear under my knee length shorts but this doesnt work. i have tried using vaseline on the insides of my legs but this only works short term.

someone in work told me to put talc powder on the insides of my legs before using the treadmill but i havent tried this yet.

can anyone please give some advice or remedy as this is sore and irritating!! it only happens on the treadmill too..

wear long tightish boxers or lycra shorts under you shorts, it will stop your legs rubbing together

There is a lube specifically for it, I am sure somebody will post the name. Some recommend not using treadmills as it is not the same as running, and since you only get this on a treadmill it would appear it is a different motion to your normal running.

    bodyglide works for this too.

thats the one! I never used it, when I was overweight my legs did chaff walking long distances, sudocreme cures it, I never prevented it.

I used to get this after walking around Dublin shopping for a day back in my chubby years. Do you have a good bit of excess fat on your upper legs? I cycled a lot and lost a good bit of weight and did it chaffing free because you naturally keep your legs apart when cycling:)

bodyglide is a lube company that make a series of products to prevent chafting and rubbing. Many triathlete's use it as they do not contain petroleum so do not contribute to degradation of wetsuits.

I used to use plain vaseline when doing a lot of distance running. It did the job! Another good thing to rub on after showering is E45 cream... available in any pharmacy. If you get this between the legs, you'll probably get it under the arms eventually too depending on your running style... and that's bloody sore!

Talcum powder works to soothe it afterwards.it wont stop the moisture that causes the chaffing DURING the run.
Long-ish lycra shorts under your own shorts will work wonders.

E45 cream after a shower (make sure the skin is dry though) will help to heal any sensitive skin afterwards.

think ill pick myself up a pair of them lycra shorts for underneath my shorts.

    +1 on the stretchy tights.
also take a good look at the shorts you are wearing - do they have a big ugly seam running down the inside where the chafing is happening? Try cutting that off or getting a better made pair of shorts.
Also make sure to keep that area very clean - I got some nasty and very sore boils in that area. Dolloping on loads of cream after the area is already sore may be bad in taht respect.

Maybe this is obvious, but don't ever run in boxer shorts. All that loose fabric flapping around is a real chaffer. Go for the suggestions above or tighter thunderpants

I actually have boxers which I only wear at home, but never outside where I'd have to walk more than 10 steps in them. Did it once and almost had to be carried home.

Loose underwear is a nightmare when running. It's a pain when in shorts as well and everything starts riding up to the point where you're not sure you're decent or not....

I find tight hugging boxers do the trick for me. (Can't bring myself to buy y fronts)

Lycra shorts if your playing sports. If your in the gym, tight boxers/briefs or whatever you wanna call them are your best bet as youll prob be looked at rather oddly like the 40yr old bloke you see doing his mad stretches that take him at least half an hour before he decides that he's sweated too much and it time to hit the showers. Just thought I'd say that........:D
