Struggling to think of what games Santa could bring my son, any ideas would be most welcome. He is not into football !

    Thanks

The new Simpsons game for DS would be good I reckon.

Nintendogs would be a good start. Maybe New super mario brothers or Mario Kart as well.

Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Mario 64 DS, New Super Mario Bros. or Sonic Rush are great and easy to play.

I disagree -- NSMB & Sonic Rush have horrendous save systems.
Sonic Rush also has problems with giant-pits-of-doom and really annoying voice acting (Tails & Cream can fv*k right off to Tweetown!)

Problems with the save system in NSMB? The game saves after the mid way boss and then at the end level boss. You can also chose to save any time by paying 5 coins to access one of those houses with the free life etc games etc.
Not too much of a hassle now to be honest. I'd hardly call it horrendous. Once you complete the game you can save it whenever you want.

There's no way I'd let such a small niggle turn someone off one of the best DS games out there. It's brilliant. Playing through it a 2nd time now myself.

I totally agree with what you said about the pits of doom in Sonic Rush. Was annoying me so much I stopped playing.
Started Sonic Rush adventure and they seem to have thankfully left them out. The game is much more enjoyable.

You need to read David Sirlin's Save Game Systems article.

That save system is what brought NSMB down to an 8/10 IMO.
That and the horrible way that some WORLDS could not be accessed unless you beat the boss as mini-Mario (seriously WTH guys?)

Interesting article. The mini Mario world access would be a far greater issue to me than the save system. Mainly as I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who hadn't a clue how to unlock them. And they're a pretty damn big chunk of the game.

I have to admit, I did as a matter of odd coincidence experience the save annoyance this morning while getting off the bus. My stop came and I only had three gold stars.
However! I don't think it's a regular enough problem to seriously detract from the game. Well it hasn't been for me anyway.

Perhaps for a child it may be an issue. So you do have a point in relation to the OP's question.

All said though, I wouldn't dock 2 marks out of 10 for those issues. Whatever problems they may cause, the game is still pretty much perfect Mario platforming and should be played by everyone who owns a DS.

On another note, it comes with an absolute load of great minigames. Most of which can be played multiplayer. Have had so much fun with them that i'd nearly buy them separately.

Thanks for the all suggestions, much appreciated

Simpsons - Inspired suggestion, he loves the simpsons, did not realise there was a game

Nintendogs- I was thinking of this one but was wondering if it is not a bit "girlie"

Super Mario - he has one of these games already

Lego Star Wars - he loves legocity so this might be a good one

Thnaks again for all the siuggestions including those not mentioned above!

    cheers

NOT NINTENDOGS, it'll get him a hiding in the school yard, next thing you know you'll be sending him to school with a Polly Pocket school bag!

    New Super Mario Bros

    EAs Playground

    Juiced

    Mariokart,

There, thats all the bases covered.

Also watch out for good deals in Argos,
And if you haven't yet bought the DS, for heavens sake hurry up, they are selling really fast!
