    Hi,

We're in Paris for a few days and overheard a few people at dinner talking about massive strikes due to hit Paris and much of France from tomorrow evening (Tuesday) onwards (open-ended, no finish date). We flew out with Air France and are relying on the RERC and the Metro for transport- its my understanding that its all the transport unions, the farmers and the students who are all due to go out marching.

I've gone on the BBC, International Herald Tribune, Sky and a few other likely suspects to try to get some information- but am drawing a blank. Can anybody point me in the direction of some reliable information about what is happening please?

Very grateful for any help that anyone can give me.

    Shane

SNCF (Train strike) from Tuesday 20:00 and RAPT (metro) from Wednesday morning.

1 metro and bus in every 10 running = a metro every 25 minutes.

From what I have heard there is no finish date but I'll wait to see if that actually happens. Most people aren't expecting it to last more than 24 hours like 2 weeks ago.
Maybe consider booking a taxi/shuttle if arriving on the 14th ?

Take good walking shoes and warm clothes. It isn't expected to get higher than 4°C on Thursday :)

    Thanks for the info!
We're in Paris already- which you would imagine would make getting information more easy- but its not. We passed a large student march in St. Michel yesterday evening- they hope to get all students out marching by the end of the week. Fecking hell- just our luck. The French sure do love their protests. :(

The good news is that :

The 'protests' aren't wild things that could cause you physical harm. They are mapped out by the police and always take the same route.

Information isn't that easy to get because people don't know all that much. Unions aren't obliged to inform the management as to how many people intend to strike so that can't say what impact strikes will have nor how long thay'll last. We won't know if they'll be a strike Thursday until Wed evening.

Here's a site in French that has links to the transport companies info pages :
