What a great piece of marketing from Absolut.

Saw a bottle in Dunnes the other night and it looks the business. I'd say they'll sell a lot over the next month or two.

Yes, looks class, everybody in tescos was picking them up. The vodka market is massive and smirnoff red have a bizarre hold on it, similar to budweiser having a large hold on the beer market, yet other beers do compete, but smirmoff red must outsell others hugely- and its muck!

There was a time when Smirnoff and Huzzar were the only Vodkas available in pubs.

Smirnoff was seen as the more "exclusive" of the two.

My mother and sister are rabid Smirnoff drinkers, apparently the bubbles move differently in a Vodka and 7Up depending on the vodka used.

    :D

Haha, I remember that. Back in the day when I used to work as a lounge-boy in the local you'd always hear the aul biddies say to ya after ordering a Vodka and coke, "Make sure it's Smirnoff and not that Huzzar sh1te!!" :D

I also used to be a lounge boy, and the pub I worked in used to pour Huzzar into empty Smirnoff bottles.

    True story.

Zubrowka is the ONLY vodka I drink.

    Educate the fools.

last time i showed up at a house party with tyskie i got lots of slagging for bringing "cheap polish piss". most people would assume polish anything to be crap.
it's all in the mind. grey goose was only created as french stuff has a certain air of class to it

I hate this snobbish attitude when it comes to alcohol tbh. Each to their own.

Apart from Bud. Bud is truly vile.

How would you recommend it? Would you drink it neat?

    I have done.

But, it goes particularly well with chilled apple juice. The clear apple jiuce, not the cloudy one.

If you can chill a glass in the freezer and have the juice chilled too, then that's perfect.

OR, get that Polish Apple/Cherry juice.

Cheers Des. I'll have to give it a try.

If you ever find yourself within nabbing distance, nicest vodka I have ever had was Viking Fjord. Yum, yum!

Zubrowka and apple juice = good
zubrowka and red bull = horrible.

but tyskie is good, and that's all that matters, the other lads were drinking bud and miller. if i showed up with leffe the same would probably have happened

Having been told again and again to bung some apple juice into my Zubrowka, I finally tried it the other day. It's really hard to get the balance right: too much apple juice and it's too sickly sweet; too much vodka and it's too bitter and grassy. I think on balance I'll stick to drinking Zubrowka chilled and neat.

I think the Poles are just into really sweet drinks, hence the whole beer-and-syrup atrocity.

    Yeah, Tyske is great.

I bought a leffe in The Porterhouse before, along with the glass and all the lads who were drinking bottles of poxy miller were looking at em in shock, for drinking out of a girly glass.

    Imbeciles.

Picked up a bottle there today, it was €23.99 in Tesco, Bloomfields.

They had the regular bottles (without the disco shell) on special at €20.99. Tis a fine addition to any liqour cabinet ;)

Is that the vodka with the reed in it? Myself and my Polish housemate polished (Lolz) off a bottle of it the other night

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Zubrowka is yeah.

And it's Bison Grass, not a reed :)
