    I need xp for college.

Dell outlet won't let me customise the pc to xp.

How much is it to change it to xp for a student ?

Ring them and quote the model number of the laptop and ask them can you get xp on it. If that fails you will have to get a copy of xp and install it yourself. This is pretty easy but it means you have to buy xp.

Dell outlet machines are sold as-is and can't be changed. If you want XP you'll have to go the AlmightyCushion route and install it yourself.

You'll get XP Home for about €100 and pro for €150.

Out of curiosity, why won't Vista do for college?

Also, long shot but still, some colleges are part of a Microsoft thing that allows you to download free software direct from their site, you might (if you're lucky) be a member.. (it's www.msdnaa.com btw)

It's funny that's what EVERYONE said about XP at first. Let's see what happens to people's opinion of Vista, when Windows 7 comes out :D

Sorry but have to point out that switching to XP is by NO means easy. I'd go as far to say that unless your tech-savvy, it's probably not a good idea. There are all sorts of driver issues, plus a tricky issue involving laptop SATA drives.

For the systems Dell don't offer with XP, you will have trouble finding drivers.

They offer xp on pretty much all their systems.
