We are getting our kitchen tiled and after peeling off the previous tiles there is a mixture of some plaster on the majority of the wall and on parts none at all..its right back to the very brick.

We were looking to plaster over it all but were told that to plaster over plaster will lead to cracks..is this right? How about for tiles.. if the tiles go on plaster thats on plaster do they come loose as someone told us? We have bought repair plaster for the parts that are to the wall and standard plaster for the rest.

The question is.. will we have to take off all plaster and strip it right back in order to prevent cracks int he future?

Brush on some pva and repair the missing bits. Wont crack. Wall tile adhesive is flexible so any hairline cracks wont come through to the tiles. (make sure you get flexible adhesive and grout)
