    Whats up with this?

I went into game the other day and had a look at a good few of the titles and then compared then to the xbox ones. I was surprised to see that most of the xbox games were 1080i while the same games for the PS3 were 720p. Even for the new games like Fifa 08 and PES 08 and more which i can't remember are only 720p.

Anyone know the reason behind this?

i would'nt worry about it to much,
from what i have been told 720p is better for moving images and 1080i is better at static images.
so it is best to display at 720p for games.

im sure you will get a better answer from some of the other guys on here!

Well heavenly sword is 720p (still looks fantastic), although COD4 which i have not loaded in yet is 1080p though does support 720p and 1080i.
    My tv goes to 1080i

If i understand correctly, 720P is the native resolution of 360 games, but those that are listed as 720P/1080i/1080P such as Halo 3 and Bioshock are upscaled(?)..or am i wrong?

All games for the 360 have to have a minimum resolution of 720p (although Halo 3 is lower). On the PS3 720p is also the lowest resolution that sony asks for. Practically all 1080p games for the PS3 are upscaled just like on the 360 and any true 1080p games usually have terrible framerate problems at that resolution.

The resolution on the box of PS3 games is the true native resolution, because the system doesn't upscale things. If the game is 720p it outputs at 720p and lets your tv do the rest.

The resolution on the box of 360 games is the output resolution, which is very rarely the actual resolution but is instead upscaled by the 360 rather than your tv, which should give better results.

Rainbow 6 Vegas looks way better in 720p than 1080i

From what I've heard (and this isn't personal experience) it is extremely difficult to distnguish between 720p and 1080p. I was going to get a 1080p tv but from what I've read you're better off getting a high end 720p.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the whold 720p/ 1080p thing.

You'd notice a difference on very large panels

Yeah I've heard it said that you only notice it on sets larger than 48 or 52 inch or something.
