I want to format the computer. I've 100 gigs of data on the disk 30 of which is useful but buried within the comp.

Anyone know of a way to copy it all over to some other disks on the network or external drives ?

I'd rather not trawl through it looking for individual files.

you want a program that will figure out which 30GB of the 100 is important and copy just the 30 GB !!!

wow , everyone needs such a program

to copy all files from C to D - ignore errors, don't copy files already copied, mark the archive bit when copied

    xcopy c:\*.* d:\*.* /s /d /y /c /m

top copy all .JPG files form c to d
    xcopy c:\*.JPG* d:\*.* /s /d /y /c /m

Nah not the 30gigs but I'd rather have the 100 so I can search in future :)

You could buy some ghosting software and create an exact image of your current HD on an external drive. This will back up everything including OS and programs/settings etc, may not be the option for you but will save you searching for what you need backed up.

Don't go out and buy ghosting software! Have a look around for <warez>.. literally a hundred great boot apps, been using it for years.. i use Acronis TrueImage from it for the purpose youve mentioned, works perfect

You could also try this (legimate) free ghost software: FOG - Free, Open-Source Ghost

I've never used it myself (I own copy of Norton Ghost) but it looks good.
