    Hi folks,
I am finally going to take the plunge & purchase this machine as the heart of my Home Cinema set up. I believe I can pick one up for £399 /€600 off the web. Has anyone done this or can they recommend the best sites for both price & After Sales. Alternatively, some retailer (ideally in or near Dublin) that they would recommend for this purchase.

All assistance and advice will be appreciated.

Yeah i'm looking at this machine aswell. U can get it off komplett for 590 plus delivery. Peats also have it for 650. So it might be better to get it of them incase something goes wrong with.

What speakers do u have r are planning on getting as a matter of interest?

Im gonna get one of these off komplett , Im confident enough that it will be fine and having dealt with them for years I have no worries about warranty issues.

This amp looks like its going to be a huge seller , great performance and a great price.

Would this amp feed a bookshelf speaker ? ,or is it only for satelite speakers ?

€566 from richersounds.ie. €580 inc delivery. Based in Belfast. Just got the 905 delivered on Fri from them. Haven't hooked it up yet as I'm awaiting my new speakers and sub. Heavy big beast of a yoke!

This is a serious piece of kit , with 7 X 140W rms into each channel , speakers should be rated accordingly ,
Although fully driven its more like 90W ,

i.e. speakers need to be rated at least 4-8 Ohms and be able for a minimum of 90W rms , after that it doesnt matter what shape they are , to get the best out of this amp though , your gonna want some half decent speakers.

    Speakers: I have a set of Bowers & Wilkins 603's S3 Floorstanders, 601's S3's & lcr 60 Centre.

This is a heavy duty piece of kit. It is meant to push out 140W in a 7 channel format and processes True Digital inputs. It is hugely popular in the UK, ( see www.avforums.com) for dedicated threads. There seems to be a lemming-like following for it as it received a 5 star rating from What Hi-fi magazine.

The build quality is not meant to be excellent and there are some finniky anomalies with it, but for the money, it is meant to offer fantastic technology and Digital features. I am hoping to go for a demo to-morrow.

I'm sorry if I am hijacking this thread ,but just a quick question about this kind of setup :o

I've currently got a denon DM31 which is a CD/RADIO/AMP ,with a set of speakers that are rated at 6.Ohm and it says amp should be 15-75Watts p/ch.

If I where to get an amp like the onkyo , could I route my denon through it and use the speakers that came with it on the onkyo, for stereo use.

Obviously adding satelites and a centre speaker for 7.1

Well, I did my deal with a first class operator this afternoon. Thanks to the recommendation of Casey711 on this thread, I decided to give a local dealer a try, and I'm sure glad I did. I visited the website of Sound Solutions, Gorey www.soundsolutionshifi.com and got their contact details. After a browse around their user friendly site. i spoke to a very helpful, polite lady who suggested I contact their Manager - Mr Bruce Sheldon on 087 9692728 as he was on-site supervising an installation. Again, I found him polite & courteous. He was very well versed in the technical aspects I needed clarified and promptly came back to me with a competitive quotation including the cables, connectors etc that I required. He beat another retailer operating out of Belfast in overall price! That coupled with the fact that he had the items in stock, so I did not have to wait at least 2-3 days for delivery as was the case with the other provider I decided to pay them a visit.

He offered a demonstration. I took him up on his offer and he kindly left an installation to set up the kit and was present when I arrived. They operate out of very modern premises on the outskirts of Gorey town and have some top class HiFi equiptment available.

The demo was relaxed and informative in their state of the art dedicated demonstration room. i did my deal there and then, coming away a very satisfied customer.

It's a long time since I enjoyed such a high level of customer service and it bodes well for this man's business and makes a refreshing change. So rarely nowadays is it possible to enjoy this level of professional service, I give them 10 out of 10!

I'm just fed up of getting poor service whether it's buying a coffee to spending big bucks on a new car - what's the common factor - the service is sh*te!

To-day, I enjoyed being a customer & I applaud the firm that achieved that. If you're happy to settle for mediocrity, you get what you deserve!

I see the begrudgery that has plagued this country for generations is still alive & well!

Guys, I've got some bad news for you. ALL of these new Onkyo's have to go back to base to fix a problem. I just got my 905 delivered on Friday and haven't even hoked it up but I was looking at avforums thread on the 905 (very very long thread) and if you read the last few pages, you'll see the UK Onkyo rep has posted and left his email address. Onkyo are covering all costs and you can either take delivery of another persons fixed amp or new one if your lucky or have your own one fixed and sent back to you. Sucks but at least they've admitted it and are taking necessary steps. I think some people are experiencing issues with video and Onkyo need to remove a capacitor to get at something. Don't know the in's and out's but I'll be sending mine back anyway.

Actually its not all the amps that are affected, only the early production runs, all the later models have had the mod, agree with wolfman my expierence with sound solutions was also very good...nice to have someone local for a change!!

I agree with Casey711, as far as I know it was only the first run of amps ( I can only speak about the 605 model) that had this issue AFAIK. I read on a thread on WWW.AVFORUMS.COM that you can visit Onkyo's website and you can check your serial no against a cut off point i.e. if yours is later than the cut off, then there's no problem. But I'd imagine the way suppliers are struggling to keep stocks of these amps, the first run of these faulty amps would have sold out long ago. Nonetheless, I will check it out and update this forum if there is a change

Yeah, for the 605 there was a firmware update needed on early units. Onkyo offered to send out a CD or you could download the update, and perform the update yourself or send back if you really wanted. To check if this was required you could enter the serial number of your 605 on their website, see the left nav option.

I purchased my 605 a few months back from Harvey Normans, and when I checked the serial number it was okay !

You might also be interested in the 605's owners thread on AV Forums or perhaps we should start one here also?
