Car hire abroad

This could easily be in the wrong forum, but anyways...

I'm looking at going to Slovakia for a week early next year. Problem is, I'm not 21 yet, and the car hire firms here at least won't rent to a 20 year old. Has anyone any experience of this being different on the continent? Their public transport system at times makes Dublin's look effective, clean, fast and cheap so a car is fairly important...

It's a stadard across most of Europe, your best bet is to chase up the hire companies, they'll be listed from the Airport website you're flying into. I drive in Poland/Germany a few times a year, and it's normally 25+ for most companies.

Most have a minimum age of 23 to 25 with some allowing down to 21. They usualy apply a surcharge. A very small number allow down to 18, you might be able to find one locally when you get there. I can only find ones i the US

You could check out the site below.
They have numbers for Peugeot Open Europe and Renault Eurodrive who do lease type arrangements down to 18. They say they are economical for periods of 21 days or more, so I dont know if they would be worth it for only a week. Give them a ring and get the details

Thanks for the link; I'd be willing to pay a surcharge if it meant not having to see the inside of another Slovakian bus; might just hold off the extra month until I'm 21 as that opens up a few more (Europcar for one).
