    Is cost the only factor?
About 3 years ago I moved from ntl digital to Sky+ because the ntl box was slow, had a crap interface, brutal customer service and no Sky Sports Extra (for NFL and NBA).

IMO Sky is considerably better and Sky+ is just brilliant.

No free channels on Cable and it's a poorer quality signal. I've 7 satellite receivers and one 22 Euro Sky sub.

get an English free sat from Sky card, a digibox and a cheap aerial for RTE or a dtt box if you can get a digital signal in Athlone.
    no more bills.
    lots of channels.
