Christmas beer prices

 Notice all the big supermarkets have all there shelves stocked ready for Christmas. My local Dunnes have cases of beer everywhere but to my surprise the prices aren't that great this year. I usually buy lager in for guests, but no great offers at all, Cheapest case ive found so far is carlsberg at €36. Last year i was able to buy fosters, carling, carlsberg all at €29 a case. Some of the not so nice labels at €19 or €24 (Bavaria, tennants, Dutch gold), But i wouldnt buy them anyway.

Looks like a trip up to the north is on the cards to ASDA for all my christmas drink!! (24 cans*500ml carling £13.99, around €20 if im not to far out?) Plus a much greater selection of ales etc.

Edit, If i buy 3*8 carling (Fridge packs) they work out at €30 for 24 (€10 each)

    Hiya Bee.

Newcastle would be the closest store to Newry. It's about 20 miles and will take another 25 minutes to get to.

    Here's the Asda Store Locator.

Just Make sure to fill up before you leave!

Newry has An oddbins, next to Dunnes Stores on Monaghan street (you cant miss it) which last year did cans of Carlsberg (24) For £10:99, (just over €15:00) "get 2, works out at 48 cans for 30 euro!

Remember, A lot of the supermarkets sell 440ml cans, which arent as big as you would normally get!

Can't remember exactly, but ASDA do mainly bottles of main brand beers at great value.

    I got 3 x 20 can (440ml) cases of Carlsberg for £20 (e30) last weekend.

Sainsburys and Tesco are going to town on the beer prices up north.

Sainsburys have 3 boxes of beer for £20!!!!

60 bottles for about €30. Choice from Carlsberg, Miller, Becks, Bud and a few others.... Pretty sweet deal!

I'd imagine those slabs of Heino/Bud/C'Berg that are in Tesco's will dip under the €30 mark closer to xmas. Tesco did a slab of Heino for €20 the week before easter last year  Fed me for a certain music festival it did :D

they might have to advertise it on the quite after a fool complained to the ASAI about last years, maybe they will have to have it buy 12 now and collect the other 12 tomorrow night so as you don't lash them back in one go :D

What sort of sad bastard, would go to the trouble of reporting that?

Thats unbelievable someone would do that. Its not making everyone go out and buy beer? Its good that supermarkets are giving us a chance of a fair deal down here in the south. I was in Enniskillen this weekend and stocked up on ridiculous deals in Asda for the festive period. I wont be throwing it down my neck in one go but sharing it with all my guests.

    3*18 440ml carlsberg for £20 (€30)
1l Baileys £8 (€12) Special for weekend only
    1l Bells Whiskey £13 (€19)
    1l smirnoff red £13 (€19)
    1l Barcardi £13 (€19)
    1l Gordons Gin £13 (€19)

Numerous wines brought including good deals on 3l cartons averaging £13 for a decent brand.

Its well worth a trip up for the day. A day out and the satisfaction of a few bargains.

Girlfriend brought all the decorations and household appliances for near to nothing.

And hopefully the Xmas presents as well:D

6 bottle case of Chilean Red- Casillero del Diablo - €29
    case of miller( 15 x 330ml bottles) €10
20 bottle( 330ml) case of coors lite €18

    Well worth the trip!

Anyone see any decent bargains for beer in the Free State? ;)

All uk supermarkets are much the same with similar deals. Asda is the nearest for me in Enniskillen, Tesco opened a store this week there as well. Not only is it cheaper for shopping, but you have a day out. Its great that the troubles in the north have passed and its a great place to go now. Most places take euro as well at a good rate.

Bah Humbug by Wychwood? It's English and not worth a fraction of that price tag, IMO.

Tesco in Lucan had 20 bottles of Miller for I think €16.99. Lidl in Tyrrellstown (Ballycoolin) had 20 bottles of Carlsberg for €17.99 last week
