I've found lately that often when I have a number of tabs open and try to click between them, it hangs really badly, also when I right click to open a thread in a new tab, it hangs.

Used to be fine a few weeks ago.

I'm running a fast computer and have lots of virus protection that is run often.

    Anyone else getting similar issues?

'Tis working fine for me. What version are you using? What add-ons have you installed? I'm on 2.0.0.9 and running ad-block and the boards PM monitor.

    Haven't got the spybot.

Actually, I think some add-on installed last week, can't recall why it did, I didn't request it.

It's called Wizz RSS News Reader..

    Addons:

    1. Wizz RSS News Reader
(A fairly good RSS and Atom news reader) - not my description that's what it says on the add-ons page.

    2. Talk Back (sends information about program crashes to mozilla)

    3. DOM Inspector (Inspects the structure and properties of a window and its contents).

No idea how I ended up with it installed, have you got that? Think I'll disable that, possible culprite cause it's the only thing that's new.

Did it install for either of you?
I think I'll try disabling it and see if the problem stops....

I've never even heard of that. Uninstall it and see if that fixes anythings.

Thanks for the quick responses. Disabled that, I'll see if it's any better.

    Edit: thus far, no improvment.

It's odd, sometimes it's fine, othertimes it's starts happening.

Is there any sort of memory lead happening? Or is Firefox hogging the CPU when your tabbing issue occurs?

CTRL+Alt+Del will get you into the task manager to look at the processes that are running.

Could it be that the web pages you are visiting are coded incredibly badly? Or that you have a dodgy installation of Flash or Java.

Would Firefox hang if you opened up a few boards.ie tabs?

Okay. I posted them up so that you could open them and see if your Firefox hangs. Well.. yeah go figure, mine is now hanging too.

Ive a dual core machine. So ONE core is at 100% other 5%. Firefox memory usage is 94mb.

When my lappy charges up I'm gonna try open them on that. It has Ad Block and a few other nifty things on it.

Firefox hangs badly for me when I open multiple tabs from Boarsd.ie, but doesn't usually hang when I open multiple tabs form others sites.

With 3 tabs open Firefox is using 72mb

Actually, after about 4min Firefox seems to be okay with a load of boards.ie tabs.

I know my phone freaks out when I go on boards. More my phones fault than boards though.

I have 10 boards tabs open. If I were to open 10 pages they wouldn't load instantly, but I wouldn't expect them too, it's flicking between tabs of loaded pages that now hangs for a few seconds, a few times upto 8 or 9 seconds. Didn't used to.

I suppose I could reinstall firefox perhaps.

I'm not the most computer savy. There are a lot of processes, most of them small. Biggest ones are Firefox (160mb), Yahoo (45mb) Exporer.exe 30mb (which isn't actually open, so not sure why), googletalk (16mb) msn (13mb)

The rest all seem to be system and are a lot smaller.

The Processor is running between 30-57% at the moment.

Yeah FF has been acting up for me too, it's really gone to $hite lately.

Hope Mozilla get it sorted soon, don't really want to switch browsers If I can help it.

    Interesting.

I have that dom inspector too, no idea what it is so it must of being a standard update.

Kind of glad to hear I'm not the only person having problems, maybe it's something they will resolve...

Keep this thread alive if anyone else is having problems or if anyone who currently has issues notices them stop.

    :)

All right this is pissing me off now. Firefox is starting to use a lot of my cpu. It's keeps fluctuating from 10% - 40%. This is with two windows . One with 5 tabs, the other with 4.

I use the Seamonkey browser and am getting the same issues as you've all described. It is clearly an issue with how the program is handling resources from RAM.

The DOM inspector: if you don't know what it is don't install it.

However, it is not the cause of any of our problems. You have the option, when installing FF/SM to choose 'custom installation'. Uncheck DOM while you are in here. (I think this, and Talkback which is Mozilla's own version of Microsoft's error reporting program, is the only option on FF; on SM there are about seven options)

I often have 2 or 3 pages open, one with 4-6, boards with anything upto 10.

But it used to be gravy.

my firefox at times tends to use 60+% cpu usage.. and well, its always using insane amounts of RAM due to my current.. 80 tabs open.. :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,568 ✭✭✭ethernet

Always hogging memory. Opening a few tabs in boards while listening to a [fully downloaded] track on YouTube, for exmaple, causes all sorts of break-up. CPU usage goes mad when a few tabs are opened sequentially.

Also, what's really annoying me lately, is how Firefox is disappearing from the taskbar even what it's still running. It seems to come back after a few seconds however. And don't get me started on the middle click issue on Linux ...
