    Hi,

Im hoping someone can help out because i cant find the answer to this anywhere. Basically my parents have an old (4 years) fujitsu siemens desktop at home. We got broadband installed and all was working well until recently. We have an eircom router and a wireless netopia USB Adaptor. This was working fine for a number of months. However one day the computer no longer recognised the USB Adaptor. We got a new one sent from eircom and plugged it in, but again the computer does not recognise the adaptor. The hou glass comes up when i plug it in but then just disspears and nothing happens. I know this Adaptor is working ok as i plugged it into my laptop and everthing was fine.

Now i rang eircom again and they said my computer might not have the USB power to run the adaptor. I was on the phone for over 2 hours so im not too happy with them. I checked the power settings for my USB under My Computer> Properties> Device Manager> USB controllers and it says i should have 500 mA for each port. When i plug in the Adaptor i see the device which is described as Unknown USB device and the power required is 300 mA. Surely my USB port has enough power so!

Has anyone experineced anything like this?

    Thanks,

Go again to My Computer> Properties> Device Manager>Network Adapters and check if your USB adapter is there - if it is it should be working ok. If not it's probably under Other devices and has yellow question mark next to it - which means drivers for the adapter are missing and you have to run installation once again.
Sometimes it also happens that if you have more than one USB port on the PC one of them may be not getting enough power and you should try another one.
