    Are they? Where?

    Maybe it's for the rally???

There was a few of them turned on on Wine Street and all the ones on Teeling Street(by the Garda Station and Envy),I take it then its not usual to have them on

They are probably just testing them to see if they work.

We generally don't do a lot of that in Sligo!:D
If they don't work we'll cancel Christmas!;)

AFAIK the presents in Santa's sack are in conflict with section 4 of the town charter!:D

Thats what I thought but there wasn't any council workers or anything around and they hardly need to have them on for hours to see if they work, just one flick of the switch does it

Stress testing maybe. Just because they work for a few seconds doesn't mean they'll work for a month or so straight. They might leave them on for a few days to see that they will last. Or somebody forgot to turn them off. Al Gore will flip if he finds out.

They dont seem to have tested them at all in recent, half of them have bulbs that dont work so if they were testin them in years past wouldnt they have fixed the bulbs,so why start now

How many Sligo people does it take to change a light bulb?

    1.

    Well maybe more than one.

First it must be established if the light bulb can be changed by someone living within the Borough Boundary (and of course they must not be an electrician with the HSE).

Then agreement must be reached on a number of key issues including where you can actually sell light bulbs in Sligo.

After that local councillers must fall out again over a planning issue.

Next the question arises where the person changing the bulb can park.

Then finally the bulb can be changed - by a chap from Poland!

    Make sense?

Christmas lights on the 7th November? And they'll be up until early January. That two months, as in a sixth of the year. Doesn't feel very special any more. Anyway, people have more impressive lights in front of their houses nowadays.

I agree. Two weeks before Christmas, and untill just after New Year is enough to have the lights. It makes it more special.

I also agree that its a fairly poor show aswell. Outdoor lights have become so much more affordable in the last few years, I'm sure it could be done better. Let me at 'em!

All the same.. I'll be the one with a little tear, sqeezing my babys hand when they are officially switched on... kills me every time.

It's been confirmed in today's weekender that the lights were just been tested

I love Christmas lights but I didn't like seeing them on yet.

Those lights were still on last night (Tuesday). What is it? Some sort of longevity test?:D

And they don't need to go to the toilet while changing the bulb.
